Why we need you
Within the BG&E2 Character team you will be responsible for creating the project’s characters. From the Art Director’s brief to integrating your work into the game your skills will help support gameplay and narrative needs, contributing to building the game’s universe.
Missions
Design, produce, and optimize 3D character assets that meet artistic, technical, and narrative requirements for a large player‑facing title.
What you will do
- Understand and interpret concept art and propose creative solutions to artistic challenges.
- Create complete assets for human and hybrid avatars: anatomies, costumes, gear:
- Produce 3D models, sculpts, and low‑res models (anatomy, facial features, outfits, haircuts, accessories, equipment, etc.)
- Bake and texture creation.
- In‑game material setup.
- Add strong visual storytelling: materials, organic details, scars, etc.
- Collaborate with Riggers, Animators, Materials, and Tech Artists to meet in‑game quality goals and improve workflows.
- Optimize assets to meet technical budgets.
- Contribute to the creation of the Character team’s asset libraries.
- Contribute to quality benchmarking and enrich the project’s visual bible.
- Support junior or freelance artists to maintain a consistent quality level.
Qualifications
An experienced, reliable, autonomous, and curious character artist with a passion for bringing game characters to life with a strong and varied artistic identity.
Key skills for this role
- Several years of experience producing video game characters.
- Experience on an open‑world or narrative game with a strong artistic vision.
- Portfolio showing anatomical knowledge, form, visual storytelling, and material craftsmanship.
- Film/VFX profiles welcomed if familiar with real‑time production.
Artistic skills & Craftsmanship
- Adapt to a complex art direction: stylized realism, pirate, sci‑fi universe—the DNA of BG&E2.
- Translate a 2D concept into 3D assets from main heroes to background NPCs.
- Understand proportion, harmony, and readable silhouettes for a TPS game.
- Master ZBrush, Maya, Marvelous Designer, Substance (Painter/Designer).
- Know the technologies and pipelines related to character creation for video games (scans, photogrammetry, groom, hair cards, FACS, shaders, topology, etc.).
Reliability & Ownership
- Invest time wisely: balance quality vs. optimization.
- Deliver within production timelines and project constraints.
- Push the quality of assets all the way to their in‑game context.
- Optimize and finalize assets to improve overall game quality.
Team spirit & Mentoring
- Give and receive feedback with peers and share best practices.
- Remain open to feedback: AD revisions, gameplay adjustments, engine optimizations, etc.
- Understand the needs of other teams (rig, anim, materials, etc.) and technical constraints to achieve the best in‑game results.
- Adapt to the project’s production tools and contribute to improving them alongside tech teams.
- Support junior or freelance artists, spreading best practices (documentation, training, etc.).
Other requirements
A good level of French is required.
