AXA XL’s culture of profitable growth and disciplined underwriting is the strategic focus of the GCUO, Casualty. The main remit is the development of consistent underwriting standards, practices, and procedures. As a member of the Global CUO Leadership Team, reporting directly to the AXA XL Global Chief Underwriting Officer, the Casualty GCUO will act as the Global Technical leader responsible for developing and assessing the core underwriting strategic direction and product profitability for the Global Casualty portfolio.

This role is predominantly an internal technical position with opportunities for customer-facing interactions, working with internal clients and key brokers to support global and regional underwriting and marketing strategies. You will collaborate closely with Regional CUOs and Regional Casualty Product Heads to meet financial objectives and oversee all underwriting operations, including pricing, policy language, and underwriting guidelines.

You will also work with functional leaders such as Claims, Actuarial, Finance, Reserving, Operations, Technology, Data, and Pricing and Analytics.

What you’ll be DOING

  1. Partner with Regional CUOs to manage the Global Casualty line of Business P&L, set financial targets, and ensure profitable growth.
  2. Promote a culture of underwriting excellence and product performance management across the global teams.
  3. Support the professional growth of a diverse underwriting community and plan for organizational succession.
  4. Identify training needs and develop technical training programs through the AXA XL Underwriting Academy.
  5. Drive and monitor underwriting policies, rules, guidelines, and procedures to ensure technical oversight.
  6. Implement and cascade Underwriting Authority levels to achieve quality, profitability, and compliance goals.
  7. Create governance frameworks for underwriting best practices through reviews and quality controls.
  8. Represent the line during regulatory and FIC audits and coordinate responses.
  9. Work with global and regional teams to develop operational plans aligned with strategic objectives.
  10. Collaborate with Finance, Actuarial, and LOB Heads to influence regional financial planning.
  11. Maintain strong links with the Global CUO team to align product growth and strategy.
  12. Coordinate with AXA GI and other legal entities for collaboration and product innovation.
  13. Ensure collaboration between regional teams, the Global Chief Underwriting office, and Internal Audit.

You will report to AXA XL’s Global Chief Underwriting Officer.

What you will BRING

  1. Bachelor’s degree preferred, with extensive experience in global insurance, underwriting management, and operations.
  2. Deep understanding of Casualty Insurance, with experience managing a global portfolio, especially in the US Casualty market.
  3. Proven leadership, communication skills, and ability to influence across cultures.
  4. Commitment to enabling teams to achieve their best results.
  5. Strong knowledge of financial planning, analysis, and reporting.
  6. Successful track record of profitable growth.
  7. Flexibility and innovation in response to changing environments.
  8. Effective collaboration with Claims, Reserving, Product teams, and others within and outside AXA XL.
  9. Ability to engage with clients and brokers to add value through product expertise.
