Geotechnical Engineer 7: Geo-Environmental Engineer – United States nationwide. The role includes technical leadership on full-service design and construction services for geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering aspects of remediation and mining projects, including landfills, slurry walls, sheet pile walls, sediment dredging, sediment capping, solidification and stabilization of contaminated soils and sludge, lagoon closures, industrial waste impoundments, and mine site remediation. The position requires planning, scheduling and conducting or coordinating field data collection investigations and laboratory studies and testing, and directing geotechnical analyses and reporting for moderate to complex projects. It also involves leading civil design, drawings and specifications, bid packages, cost estimates and other contract documents for subcontractors, providing engineering oversight during investigations and remedial construction, and preparing scope, schedules, and budgets for proposals. The role operates as part of a multi-disciplined team on complex remediation and civil works projects, and requires excellent writing and communication skills to work with clients in public and private sectors. Oversight and mentoring of junior engineers, geologists, and technicians is included.
Responsibilities
- Serve as technical lead on full-service design and construction for geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering aspects of remediation and mining projects.
- Plan, schedule, and conduct or coordinate field data collection, investigations, and laboratory studies for diverse project types and site conditions.
- Scope, direct, and review geotechnical engineering analyses and reporting for moderate to complex projects.
- Lead civil design of geotechnical and geo-environmental projects, including drawings and specifications, bid packages, cost estimates, and other contract documents for subcontractors.
- Provide engineering oversight during investigations and remedial construction.
- Prepare scope, schedules, and budgets for proposals.
- Work as an integrated member of a multi-disciplinary team on complex remediation and civil works projects.
- Demonstrate excellent writing and communications skills and ability to work with clients in the public and private sectors.
- Provide oversight, direction, and mentoring to junior engineers, geologists, and technicians.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining or Geologic Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- 12 years of related experience.
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
- Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Qualifications (preferred):
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical Engineering emphasis.
- High level technical proficiency with remedial design of environmentally impacted sites, CERCLA Superfund sites, landfills, containment facilities and mining closure sites.
- Experience collaborating with Geologists, Hydrogeologists, Environmental Scientists, Environmental Chemists and Geochemists.
- Familiarity with Environmental regulations at federal and state levels (CERCLA, RCRA, TSCA).
- Experience with geotechnical software (GeoStudio, PLAXIS, LPILE, Leapfrog, gINT, Open Ground).
- Knowledge of geosynthetics and experience with design/installation in geo-environmental and waste impoundment projects (a plus).
- OSHA HAZWOPER 40-Hour training or equivalent certifications; AutoCAD proficiency (a plus).
