The Director / VP of Engineering will lead and optimize cross‑functional engineering teams, driving technical excellence, innovation, and operational efficiency across product development. This role combines strategic leadership with hands‑on technical involvement, ensuring high‑quality, scalable, and secure software solutions. You will work closely with Product, Design, and other departments to align engineering initiatives with business goals, while mentoring managers and key contributors. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic, remote‑first environment, balances technical depth with leadership acumen, and is passionate about building high‑performing, collaborative engineering cultures. This role is pivotal in shaping long‑term engineering strategy and execution.

Accountabilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain efficient engineering team structures to meet organizational objectives
  • Recruit, onboard, and train engineering staff, fostering professional growth and development
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of engineering efforts with business goals
  • Drive process improvements, best practices, and high standards across development, quality assurance, and operations
  • Provide technical guidance on software architecture, technology stack, and prioritization of technical debt
  • Mentor engineering managers and key contributors, conducting performance reviews and implementing career growth plans
  • Oversee budget allocation for engineering resources, software, and hardware
  • Promote a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation across distributed teams
Requirements
  • 8+ years of experience in a product company with cross‑departmental collaboration
  • 3+ years as Director of Engineering, Senior Engineering Manager, or Head of Engineering
  • 3+ years as a Senior Software Engineer with full‑stack development experience
  • 2+ years managing managers and leading high‑performing teams
  • Experience with Agile, DevOps, and software development lifecycle (SWDL)
  • Proven ability to build scalable, secure, and highly available backend systems
  • Experience implementing performance metrics (DORA, KPI, OKR)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead remote and distributed teams across time zones
  • Technical expertise in system design, backend, frontend, and databases
