Sustainable Finance Senior Consultant/Social Specialist

France Offices – Paris, Bordeaux, Aix-en-Provence, Lyon, (with flexible/remote working option)

To succeed in this role, you must have demonstrable experience in supporting environmental and social input to complex international development projects, along with a good knowledge of international lender E&S standards, including the IFC Performance Standards, the Equator Principles, and the OECD Common Approaches. Specialist knowledge and expertise in Social disciplines in particular, is highly desirable.

Your new role

As our new Sustainable Finance Senior Consultant/Social Specialist, you will be part of our renowned Sustainable Finance team, which sits within our Global Impact Assessment Global Service Line. Based in France, you would work closely with around 70 colleagues across our global office network in Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas. Working for both borrowers/sponsors and lenders, the team’s core services are to support the bankability of multiple international development projects. We offer the opportunity to work on important and prestigious projects across various geographies and sectors.

Your key tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical input and delivery, including report writing and internal reviews, on a range of Independent Environmental & Social Consultant (IESC) projects for environmental and social due diligence (ESDD) and impact assessment (ESIA).
  • Managing small to large-scale IESC ESDD projects or ESIA projects.
  • Supporting worldwide site audits and monitoring visits as part of IESC ESDD.
  • Assisting in proposal management and writing.
  • Supporting the implementation of the Sustainable Finance business development plan.

Your key deliverables within the first 12 months will be to:

  • Successfully support E&S due diligence assessments on behalf of lenders.
  • Successfully support E&S impact assessments on behalf of borrowers/sponsors to meet international standards.
  • Assist in developing proposals.
  • Actively support the Business Development plan and the growth of existing and new clients.

Your starting point for growth

  • Strong project management skills, including financial management.
  • Technical expertise in social aspects of international standards: labour and working conditions, occupational health and safety, human rights, supply chain social assessments, resettlement, livelihood restoration, cultural heritage, etc.
  • A Bachelor/Master degree in a relevant environmental and/or social discipline.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in presentation and technical report writing in both French and English.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with environmental, social, and engineering specialists.
  • Practical experience of implementing international lender E&S standards, including the IFC Performance Standards, the Equator Principles, and the OECD Common Approaches (at least 5 years’ experience).
  • Consultancy experience ranging from 5 to 15 years.
  • Fluency in English and French; additional languages are advantageous.
  • Knowledge of the EU Taxonomy is a bonus.
  • Flexibility for short-term international field visits.
  • Driver’s license is desirable.
  • Residency and eligibility to work in France (e.g., existing work visa if not an EU citizen).
