A global leader in shipping and logistics is seeking a Chartering Operations Officer to monitor and coordinate the life of chartered vessels within the fleet. The ideal candidate will possess a master's degree in nautical or legal fields, have expertise in maritime regulations, and strong IT skills. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with charter contracts and coordinating with various stakeholders. This role is based in Marseille, offering exposure to dynamic maritime operations and the chance to contribute to industry evolution.

Qualifications

  • University education, preferably in nautical, engineering, IT, or legal fields.
  • On-board experience; a Captain's or Chief Engineer's license is a plus.
  • Knowledge of 'time charter' type chartering is advantageous.

YOUR ROLE

You will join the Chartering, Sale & Purchase department’s Marine & Operations branch that observes the contractual, regulatory, technical and energetic performance of chartered vessels and ensures their efficient and continuous utilization by the CMA CGM Group's commercial lines.

Although classified as operational, the mission exposes you to a wide range of topics within the dynamic world of shipping and a business that is operating internationally, calling for open-mindedness and the desire to constantly rediscover and explore the different facets of the industry and maintain a constructive and respectful exchange with shipowners and suppliers while defending the interests, values, and image of the CMA CGM group.

For shipowners and their representatives, you will be the entry point to CMA CGM to coordinate and organize the chartered vessels’ Life in the group's fleet over the duration of its charter contract. Responsible for a determined part of the chartered fleet, you will also be the privileged interlocutor for our commercial liner departments who operate the vessels of your fleet, and further for all stakeholders on the group for topics relating to operational availability, performance, CII, maintenance, necessary repairs, possible improvements, litigation etc.

You will use the specific tools and databases of the Chartering department and will be responsible for keeping them updated for your scope.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?
  • Actively monitor and coordinate "the Life of the chartered vessel" within the CMA CGM fleet
  • Ensure compliance with the contractual terms of the Charter Party, defend the interests of the CMA CGM Group with shipowners, if necessary, using legal support
  • Arrange and coordinate the specific needs of the stakeholders of the chartered vessel: the Commercial line, the Shipowners, the Technical Managers, the Port Authorities, the Agents, the other departments of the group
  • Participate in the collection of information, for example for the monitoring of the CII or the performance of the vessel, and keep the specific databases up to date
  • Monitor and analyze the performance of the vessels in the chartered fleet in comparison with the charter contract and the constraints imposed by IMO 2023 compliance
  • Negotiate / coordinate with the owners, the timing, and the nature of the measures to be implemented in order to improve the vessels’ performance and utility the vessel for the group
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
  • University education
  • Master's degree or equivalent in nautical, engineering, IT, and/or legal (maritime law) fields
  • On-board experience, a Captain's or Chief Engineer's license would be an advantage, as well as knowledge of "time charter" type chartering
  • Expertise in maritime regulations and the legal framework, ideally IMO 2023
  • IT / coding competency could be used to further develop our IT tools.
  • You are at ease with Math and master the MS Office suite, especially Excel.
