Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Caretaker to join our school’s team. This vital role ensures the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of our school site and buildings. From opening the school each morning to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and security, you’ll play a key part in creating a welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Open and secure the school buildings daily.
  • Carry out minor repairs, maintenance, and cleaning tasks.
  • Monitor contractors and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain external grounds and support winter maintenance.
  • Conduct routine inspections and compliance checks (e.g., heating, water, fire safety).
  • Keep accurate records and logs (e.g., fire safety, health checks).
  • Support lettings and emergency callouts outside regular hours.
  • Supervise cleaning staff and support their training needs.
What We’re Looking For

Essential Criteria:

  • Previous caretaking or similar experience.
  • Practical DIY and basic repair skills.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety at Work and COSHH.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Physically fit for manual handling duties.
  • Commitment to ongoing training and development.
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks.

Desirable Skills (assessed during recruitment):

  • Understanding of caretaking and cleaning procedures.
  • IT skills for record-keeping.
  • Professional communication with pupils, staff, and visitors.
