Job Title : Software Engineer

Remote role to be based in the EU, CET or BST time zones ideally.

About the role

Our client is looking for a Software Engineer (Backend) with experience in highly demanding environments who can bring best engineering practices to the technical team. This individual will be key to building robust, scalable solutions aligned with the quality standards of Big Tech.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable back-end services using Java, Python, or Kotlin.
• Work within an agile team following practices such as TDD, CI / CD, Pair Programming, and Code Reviews.
• Actively participate in architectural decisions focused on microservices, event-driven architecture, and API-first design.
• Ensure code quality and maintainability with a focus on clean code and design patterns.
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers and other engineers to understand business impact and prioritise solutions.
• Lead small- to medium-scale technical initiatives (design docs, RFCs, tech spikes).

Requirements & Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Telecommunications, or similar.
• 5+ years of professional experience as a Back-end Software Engineer.
• Must have worked at top-tier technology companies (Big Tech companies like Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, or scale-ups with a strong engineering culture).
• Experience in back-end development using at least two of the following languages : Java, Python, Kotlin.
• Experience with distributed services, microservices, and RESTful APIs.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
• Experience in cloud environments (preferably AWS).
• Familiarity with logging, tracing, and monitoring systems and observability best practices.
• Certifications in AWS, software architecture, or similar will be valued.
