Our client is one of the biggest hedge funds in the world managing investments for a wide array of institutional clients, including foreign governments and central banks, corporate and public pension funds, university endowments, and charitable foundations. We have a group of around 100 engineers (Devs, QAs, BAs, and Project Managers) distributed between Westport, USA, and Malaga, Spain working on one big solution.

We are looking for a Senior IT Business Analyst to join our technology team supporting trading and portfolio management systems for an U.S.-based hedge fund. This role combines strong business analysis skills with technical expertise and requires experience working closely with development teams in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and technology teams to ensure accurate and timely delivery of requirements
• Collaborate with developers throughout the SDLC, providing clarification, validating deliverables, and supporting testing activities
• Document data models, data flows, and system interactions for complex trading and portfolio systems
• Plan and execute User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including scenario preparation, user support, and feedback management
• Analyse and resolve ambiguous requirements, ensuring alignment with business objectives
• Assist in incident resolution during market hours and communicate effectively with stakeholders
• Maintain system integrity and performance through proactive collaboration with cross-functional teams

REQUIREMENTS

• Experience with backend systems in a corporate environment (enterprise-grade systems)
• Strong business analysis fundamentals, including supporting development teams during SDLC; Documenting data models and flows; UAT planning and execution; and handling unclear or ambiguous requirements
• SQL proficiency: Ability to write and validate basic queries (SELECT, JOIN)
• Understanding of asset classes (equities, fixed income, derivatives, FX, commodities)
• General understanding of system architecture, networking, and cloud concepts (e.g., Kubernetes)
• Familiarity with trade lifecycle and trade attributes
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with U.S.-based stakeholders remotely
• Team-oriented mindset and ability to collaborate closely with developers
• Problem-solving skills in high-pressure environments
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

NICE TO HAVE

• Knowledge of the FIX protocol and common message types (New Order Single, Order Cancel Request, Execution Report)
• Awareness of reference data and key security attributes
• Ability to read and interpret code (.NET, Java/Scala, Python)
