Java Lead Engineer - Convert (Hybrid)

Location: Oviedo, Municipality of Oviedo, Asturias, Spain. Apply to join our Convert team in Barcelona or Madrid and lead the technical delivery of a critical product at eDreams ODIGEO.

Overview

Become a part of the world’s leading travel subscription platform, handling high‑traffic e‑commerce solutions for 21 million customers across 44 markets. You will work with cutting‑edge technologies such as Java 17, Kafka, BigTable, Redis, Machine Learning, Datamesh, Docker, Kubernetes, Google Cloud Platform, SonarQube and Datadog.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the technical delivery of a critical product for the Convert team.
  • Collaborate with Product, Business, Architecture, Data Science to shape technical strategy and evolution of the Conversion domain.
  • Define technical strategy for your modules and ensure optimal performance.
  • Translate functional specifications into high‑performance technical design, code and break work into actionable tasks.
  • Promote standards of technical excellence, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Lead a high‑performing cross‑functional agile team of 7‑10 engineers.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding and mentoring of team members.
  • Manage performance, set goals and prioritise work for the team, balancing capacity.
  • Establish a sense of identity, engagement and belonging, improving team dynamics with the aid of an agile coach.
  • Present confidently to technical and non‑technical audiences.

Key Technical Skills
  • Java, OO design, system design and performance tuning.
  • Performance engineering, design patterns and data modelling.
  • Proficiency with distributed, concurrent and scalable systems.
  • Knowledge of Java 17, Kafka, BigTable, Redis, Docker, Kubernetes, Google Cloud Platform, SonarQube and Datadog.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with applied AI tools (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or other AI‑powered assistants).
  • Experimentation mindset – curiosity to explore, experiment with, and integrate AI solutions.
  • AI‑enhanced problem solving – leveraging AI tools to debug, streamline development and improve productivity.
  • Adaptability and learning agility – rapid uptake of new AI features.
  • Interest in collaborating closely with AI tools as pair programmers.
