A leading digital health company in Barcelona is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and optimize scalable backend services for their platform. The ideal candidate has at least 6 years of experience in backend engineering, strong skills in Java or Kotlin, and expertise in cloud-native architectures. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure product goals are met and maintain high standards of security and compliance.

• 6 years of backend engineering with a strong focus on distributed systems and microservices.
• Deep expertise in Java / Spring Boot and / or Kotlin; experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Proven experience with cloud-native architectures, Kubernetes and service mesh technologies in production.

Lingo is building a cuttingedge digital health platform that fuses continuous biosensor data, high-performance backend engineering and advanced analytics to help people live healthier longer fuller lives. Our systems process massive volumes of realtime data and the backend is the heartbeat of the platform.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Build and optimize scalable high-performance backend services that power Lingos real-time biosensor platform. Youll design multi-region services on Kubernetes and service meshes, integrate streaming systems for real-time data, and ensure security and compliance for a regulated digital health environment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Design, build, and optimize microservices for IoT-scale data ingestion and real-time analytics
• Implement robust APIs and data processing pipelines; apply best practices in REST and event-driven API design in a distributed architecture
• Integrate high-throughput messaging / streaming for real-time transport and processing
• Design services for multi-region deployments using Kubernetes and service meshes to achieve reliability, security, and traffic control
• Ensure security and data protection across backend services; work within HIPAA / GDPR expectations and auditable controls in partnership with Security and Compliance
• Collaborate with frontend / mobile DevOps / Platform and Data teams to align backend capabilities with product goals and analytics needs
• Contribute to architecture reviews and promote technical excellence and high code quality standards
• Measure and improve performance and reliability (latency, throughput, error rates) and support observability, incident response, and capacity planning

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 6 years of backend engineering with a strong focus on distributed systems and microservices
• Deep expertise in Java / Spring Boot and / or Kotlin; experience with relational and NoSQL databases
• Proven experience with cloud-native architectures, Kubernetes and service mesh technologies in production
• Strong knowledge of API design (REST, GraphQL) and event-driven architectures
• Familiarity with high-throughput messaging (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and data storage (e.g., Postgres, Cassandra)
• Security-first mindset, experience building compliant auditable services in regulated contexts
• Effective collaboration skills, ability to lead technical discussions, mentor teammates, and work in agile environments

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in digital health, IoT, or regulated industries
• History of delivering high-availability, low-latency systems in production
• Experience with observability (metrics, logs, tracing) and performance tuning at scale
• Multi-region reliability patterns, API gateways, and rate limiting
