Responsibilities (Text Only)
In this role, you will lead the technical vision and execution of complex data & AI projects, from initial strategy through successful delivery. Your core responsibilities will include: - Understand and Envision Customer Needs: Engage with customer stakeholders (business sponsors, CIO/CTO, enterprise architects, IT and security teams) to gather deep insights into their technical environment and business goals. Use these insights to shape solution definitions during pre-sales and to refine project execution approaches. You will anticipate industry trends and align solutions to address industry-specific challenges, influencing customers’ long-term technology strategy. Acting as the customer’s advocate, you’ll share feedback with Microsoft engineering to improve our products and services for better alignment with customer needs. - Architecture Design & Technical Leadership: Leverage structured architecture methodologies and reference designs to create robust solution architectures for data analytics and AI workloads on Azure. This includes designing end-to-end Azure-based architectures encompassing data ingestion, storage, processing (batch and real-time), machine learning, and visualization. You will document the architecture (architecture description, decisions log, requirements traceability) and explain it in terms of business value (ROI, cost savings, agility). Drive technical decisions that balance innovation with feasible execution. For example, you might design a solution to unify a client’s data platform using Azure Fabric or Databricks, implement an AI-powered application with Azure Machine Learning and Cognitive Services, or deploy a generative AI solution using Azure OpenAI and Azure Foundry, all while ensuring scalability and performance. - Lead Solution Delivery & Governance: Collaborate closely with ISD Project Managers, ATU, CSU, STU to govern the build and deployment of the proposed architecture through proof-of-concepts, pilots, and full implementation. You will provide end-to-end oversight, ensuring the solution is delivered with high quality and aligns with the proposed design. This involves defining technical governance processes, conducting design reviews, and guiding engineering teams during development and deployment. You will foresee and mitigate technical risks or blockers (e.g. performance issues, integration challenges) by orchestrating the right expertise from across Microsoft and resolving complex escalations. In doing so, you ensure a smooth transition of the solution to live operations in the customer environment, with appropriate release planning and handover for ongoing management. - Customer Advocacy & Change Management: Serve as a trusted advisor to customers, maintaining a customer-centric perspective throughout engagements. You will champion the customer’s requirements and success criteria, ensuring the delivered solution truly meets their needs and brings the expected business value (whether that’s improving decision-making with AI insights, optimizing processes with automation, or enabling new digital services). If project changes are needed, you’ll communicate trade-offs and secure buy-in. By leveraging evidence-based insights and industry best practices, you will sometimes challenge the status quo or customers’ assumptions to recommend more effective approaches. Your advisory role also means guiding customers through organizational change – for instance, advising on upskilling their team to effectively use a new AI platform, or adjusting processes to take advantage of real-time analytics. - Practice Development & Thought Leadership: Contribute to Microsoft’s internal community and best practices. You will capture learnings from projects to develop reusable intellectual property (IP)– for example, reference architectures, templates, or design patterns for common scenarios (like an Azure data lakehouse design or an AI-powered chatbot pattern). Mentor junior architects and share knowledge on emerging technologies (such as new Azure AI services, or best practices for data governance in the age of AI). Externally, you will represent Microsoft as a thought leader: this could involve presenting at industry conferences, leading technical workshops, or publishing whitepapers/blogs on innovative data & AI solutions. By staying at the forefront of technology trends, you ensure both our team and our customers benefit from the latest advancements. - Drive Innovation with Microsoft Technologies: Always be on the lookout for how new Microsoft cloud capabilities can solve customer challenges. For example, you might prototype solutions with Azure Arc for hybrid data management or adopt Azure IoT Operations to bring analytics closer to data sources when needed. You will also incorporate Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps) as appropriate to extend solutions with low-code capabilities or advanced analytics, and ensure architectures can integrate with Microsoft 365 (and Dynamics 365) where those systems are part of the customer landscape. Ultimately, you are responsible for designing solutions that differentiate Microsoft’s offerings and clearly demonstrate to customers how our end-to-end technology stack (Azure data services, AI services, and productivity tools) can empower their business. - Risk Management & Quality Assurance: Proactively identify potential risks (technical, logistical, or business) that could impact project success. For each major project, you’ll help define risk mitigation plans and contingency approaches. For example, if a machine learning solution depends on data quality, you’ll ensure proper data validation processes are in place to avoid garbage-in, garbage-out. You will also establish quality standards and testing plans for solutions – making sure every requirement is traced to a tested implementation. If issues arise (e.g., a performance bottleneck or security concern), you will coordinate with engineers to resolve them or adjust the design if needed. Your goal is to deliver a solution that meets or exceeds customer expectations with minimal post-deployment surprises. By fulfilling these responsibilities, you will enable customers to modernize their data platforms, adopt AI responsibly, and achieve tangible business outcomes. You will be directly contributing to solution areas like “Migrate & Modernize Your Estate”, “Unify Your Data Platform”, and “Innovate with Azure AI Apps and Agents”– which are key priorities in our Cloud and AI strategy.
