A community safety organization is inviting applications for the role of Volunteer Youth Instructor. The position involves mentoring young people, providing guidance, and supporting their development within the Youth Volunteer Scheme. The ideal candidate will have experience working with youth and an understanding of the challenges they face. This is a temporary volunteering opportunity that requires commitment to training and community safety.

Qualifikationen

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Youth Volunteer Scheme would like to invite applications for the role of Volunteer Youth Instructor, based in various locations across Scotland on a temporary basis. This is a volunteering opportunity, of approximately 1 evening per week for up to 3 hours, with occasional weekend activity.

The Youth Volunteer Scheme operates at multiple locations across Scotland. Please indicate your preferred location(s) within the application. While we welcome applications at any time, availability may vary by location. If your preferred location does not currently have a vacancy, we may place your application on a waiting listand contact you as soon as a suitable position becomes available.

The successful candidate(s) will be required to support the delivery of the SFRS Youth Volunteer Scheme. They will provide support, guidance, encouragement and advice to young people whilst developing their skills and knowledge.

They will engage with and mentor young people to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors and be sufficiently equipped with improved life skills. They will also ensure that young people have a practical understanding of the SFRS and are able to play supportive roles in preventative community safety by developing positive peer relationships.

Applicants must meet the following essential criteria:

  • Experience of working with young people in either a personal or professional capacity
  • An ability to facilitate and support young peoples' progress towards achieving the goals of the programme.
  • An awareness of the challenges, issues and barriers that young people face across diverse communities
  • An understanding of Health and Safety practices and processes
  • An understanding of Child protection and wellbeing practices and processes
  • A high level of confidentiality awareness

It is also desirable that applicants can evidence of knowledge and understanding of current operational procedures and have an awareness of the benefits of working with communities. Holding a Youth Work Qualification or working towards one together with basic ICT Skills would also be desirable.

The successful candidate(s) will be expected to complete all relevant training courses for this role.

This post is subject to the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exemptions) Scotland Order 2013. The successful candidate will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme and will be required to carry out regulated work with adults and children.
