Jobbeschreibung

Comprising 17 Departments in the Natural and Engineering Sciences, as well as the Humanities and Social Sciences, TU Dortmund University is a dynamic institution with a strong profile in research, teaching, promotion of young scientists, and transfer.

The Institute of Music and Musicology at the Department of Arts and Sport Sciences is one of the largest locations for music teacher training for all music teaching professions in one of the densest and most diverse music landscapes in Europe. Additionally, the institute offers the Bachelor's/Master's degree program in Music Journalism in cooperation with the Institute of Journalism and is involved in the interdisciplinary degree program in Cultural Analysis and Cultural Intermediation.

A central goal of TU Dortmund University is to promote diversity and equal opportunities. We aim to significantly increase the percentage of women in research and teaching and therefore welcome applications from female academics. We give preference to severely disabled applicants if their qualifications meet the requirements. We support the compatibility of family and career and promote gender equality in academia and research.

In research, you will represent the field of Digital Musicology with a focus on Artificial Intelligence and develop it further with international visibility. Desired research areas include, for example, investigating the influence of AI on musical phenomena (e.g., research on generative music composition, algorithm-guided music systematization, music-based formats in social media, or hybrid music performances) or actively using AI in research on musical phenomena (e.g., music information retrieval, digital music analysis, software-supported interpretation analysis, or preference research). You will participate in research networks and collaborations within and outside TU Dortmund University. You should be willing to acquire third-party funds, promote early career researchers, and participate in teaching activities of the department, particularly in the degree programs of Music Teacher Training, Music Journalism, and the Master's Degree in Cultural Analysis and Cultural Intermediation. A willingness to participate in developing a Master's degree focused on Music and Digitality is also desirable.

The appointment is initially for three years as a temporary civil servant. During the third year, this status will be reviewed and may be extended for another three years based on performance. The teaching load is four hours per week for the first three years. Upon positive review, it will increase to five hours per week in the subsequent years.

You should have obtained a doctorate with above-average success and demonstrate initial experience in disseminating your research through publications in internationally recognized, peer-reviewed venues. Experience in obtaining competitive third-party funding and participating in research projects is desirable. You should also have the potential for teaching excellence. Social and leadership skills, as well as willingness to participate in academic self-administration, will complete your profile. Additionally, the recruitment requirements of Section 36 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act apply.

We offer an excellent academic environment and attractive cooperation opportunities with renowned international, national, and regional partners. The Ruhr metropolitan area, through the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr), guarantees proximity to various science and industry partners. Our dual career service supports your partner in finding professional opportunities in the region. We also provide information about housing, living in Dortmund, and childcare options. For international applicants, our welcome service assists upon arrival in Germany.

If you are interested in the position, please submit your application by 10.09.2025 via our application portal.
