Overview

Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer II - RVP to join our A320 Engineering Department based in Mobile, AL. Responsible for the manufacturing assessment of non-conformities, late changes to support production, and supporting and identifying continuous improvement opportunities for the manufacturing process. Responds to technical questions and explains work orders/drawings, especially for aircraft mechanical related items. Establishes and maintains effective communications with FAL production and serves as interface to the on site back office for work order adaptation.

Nearby on ‘Airbus Way’ you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. The facility, which strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry, is part of Airbus’ strategy to enhance its global competitiveness by meeting the growing needs of its customers in the United States and beyond.

Your challenges

Primary Responsibilities:

Handle Non-Conformities: 50%

  • Create specific work orders for FAL rework (Cabin, Systems, Electrics, or Structures by Station), establish/verify the technical content of non-conformities, and validate in documentation.
  • Provide technical support to production on all issues including oversight of directed changes.
  • Incorporate implicit knowledge into work instructions and refine them in terms of language, level of detail and regulation assignment to ensure operations has correct information for aircraft build.
  • Initiate availability of replacement parts, jigs, and tools required for work.
  • Serve as focal point for complex topics and apply knowledge and problem solving to resolve issues.

Continuous Improvement: 30%

  • Manage continuous improvement measures with recurring non-conformities in cooperation with quality.
  • Participate as an active team member to support ME activities in the FAL.

Project Support: 20%

  • Creates and updates KPIs for the team on assigned projects.
  • Communicates with European colleagues at other manufacturing sites for guidance on repeat or complex issues.

Qualifications and requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Engineering Technology or equivalent years of experience is required.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in Aerospace, preferably in an Aerospace Final Assembly Line.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with internal customers and work in an international team.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written; able to present clear and concise briefings and reports to customers and executives.
  • Knowledge of Airbus mechanical processes & methods and of Airbus IT-Tools (Zamiz, TAKSY, DocMaster, ECM).
  • Knowledge of SAP/R3 (Module PP/PM) and aircraft structure installation; knowledge of rules for aircraft design and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of health, safety and environmental regulations and practice.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Google Suite.
  • Ability to work autonomously on own scope of work and escalate as needed; able to build/maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work on 1st, 2nd, and potentially 3rd shift schedules.

  • Vision: Able to read computer screens, documents, and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: Able to hear conversations in person/teleconference and safety alerts.
  • Speaking: Able to communicate in meetings and conversations.
  • Equipment Operation: Able to operate office equipment and production tools as required.
  • Carrying/Lifting: Up to 30 lbs / 14 kg.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Able to move small office furniture and equipment.
  • Sitting/Standing: Capable of sitting for long periods and standing for discussions on the floor.
  • Travel: Able to travel independently and potentially internationally.
  • Walking: Able to walk through office and production areas, including uneven surfaces.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: PPE as required by site and customer sites.
