Job description

Welcome to a commitment to sustainable development you can relate to. Welcome to people who like people, to brilliant minds, tomorrow’s visionaries, challenge seekers, collaborators, and those with an entrepreneurial spirit in their DNA.

At CIMA+, you’ll find a place where your ideas and perspectives are welcomed and encouraged. In both the field and at the office, you’ll get plenty of opportunities to reach your full potential in an environment that’s engineered for people. We care about our people and make sure that they feel valued, appreciated, and part of the team. You could even become a shareholder in the company.

We give you the freedom and flexibility to manage your work on your own terms and the opportunity to work on projects you can relate to.

Job Description

CIMA+’s Earth and Environment team have adopted sustainability as a core value and prioritize the environmental, social, and economic benefits of every project. Our environmental professionals, engineers and certified technicians have the detailed knowledge of local conditions to provide the full range of environmental services for clients in both the public and private sectors.

We have the skills to execute complex environmental projects and integrate green solutions into every infrastructure, building, transportation, and energy project we undertake. Join us and immerse yourself in a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative environment where you’ll make a real impact. Together, we’ll push boundaries and go above what’s expected of us to meet the challenges of tomorrow and engineer a better world!

CIMA+ continues to grow and expand its Earth and Environment team in Western Canada. Our Natural Heritage Team is seeking a Project Manager / Biologist to support projects in British Columbia and Alberta. The successful candidate will join our growing team of biologists, environmental professionals, and field technicians, contributing expertise in field programs and natural environment reporting for diverse sectors including energy, water‑power, transportation, and land development for both public and private clients.

The scope includes navigating federal and provincial environmental regulatory processes and preparing and/or managing field programs related to potential environmental effects of energy, infrastructure, and development projects in British Columbia and Alberta. In addition, this role will support our relationships with existing clients by working collaboratively on multi‑disciplinary project teams and proposing new ways to better meet our clients’ needs.

Applicants must be knowledgeable of the relevant environmental standards, policies, practices and procedures within British Columbia, and can exercise independent judgment in analysis and problem solving for highly complex projects. Knowledge of Alberta standards, policies, practices and procedures would be beneficial as well.

This role offers the opportunity to participate in our hybrid work model, which includes flexible hours, remote work options, and access to our office located in Vancouver. The position will involve both office‑based responsibilities as well as seasonal fieldwork. Office work includes preparing proposals, technical reports, and environmental impact studies as well as custom deliverables for some of our major clients.

We are looking for candidates with demonstrated expertise in supporting large energy projects—including electricity transmission, distribution, and renewable energy projects—and municipal infrastructure. This role offers room for professional growth and advancement, including opportunities to develop project and team management skills.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Manage and conduct field programs related to a variety of environmental disciplines, including vegetation and wildlife assessments.
  • Design ecological studies, prepare environmental impact evaluation statements, and author other technical documents.
  • Develop appropriate site and project‑specific avoidance and mitigation measures.
  • Complete requests for authorizations and permits under the Environmental Assessment Act of British Columbia, British Columbia’s Species at Risk legislation (Wildlife Act, Forest and Range Practices Act, Energy Resource Activities Act, Ecological Reserves Act, Park Act, Land Act, Mineral Tenures Act), and federal legislation (Species at Risk Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act, Fisheries Act).
  • Work with clients to find practical solutions that minimize impact to the natural environment.
  • Strategically advise project teams on internal recommendation documents, including overall environmental strategy.
  • Ensure that project work is consistent with CIMA’s Earth & Environment processes.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience focused on ecology, preferably in a consulting environment.
  • Degree or diploma, preferably at the graduate level, in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or additional years’ experience.
  • Appropriate Professional designation, in good standing, in British Columbia (RPBio).
  • Proven expertise in environmental study design, data collection, natural environment assessments, mitigation, and/or monitoring.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant municipal, provincial, and federal legislation and policies, including the Environmental Assessment Act of British Columbia.
  • Project management experience and certification considered a strong asset.
  • Experience working with environmental regulators and with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience predicting, defining, and managing the environmental risks of large‑scale capital projects and programs.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The expected salary for this position ranges between $108,000 and $150,000 and is based on the richness and diversity of the candidate’s experience, training, skills and internal equity. The position or associated salary could vary depending on the profile of the candidate.

Why choose CIMA+? Because we offer you:
  • Comprehensive Group Benefits available from day one for all permanent employees working at least 20 hours per week.
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program.
  • Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) with up to 4% employer contribution.
  • As an employee‑owned company, an annual opportunity to purchase shares for all employees.
  • Flexible work schedule in a hybrid work mode.
  • Work/Life balance policy across Canada.
  • 3–5 weeks of vacation, based on years of relevant experience.
