Compensation

Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.

· Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $22.04 per hour.(Rate effective September 1, 2024)

· Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $34.73 per hour.(Rate effective September 1, 2024)

· In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

Duties

Reporting to the Department Chair or Course Instructor, the duties and responsibilities of the Course Coordinator will be in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement. These include overseeing the seminar/tutorial/lab sections for a particular course; coordinating Teaching Assistants/Lab Demonstrators/Marker-Graders and holding meetings with them; assisting in the preparation of marking schemes and coordinating the marking of course assignments and/or midterm, progress and final exams; and any other related duties as may be required by the course instructor.

Qualifications

- Applicant must have or be enrolled in a Masters or higher degree in Tourism, Business Management or Sustainability
- Applicant must have an average of 80% or higher in 2 undergraduate degree courses in the area of Tourism Management or an equivalent undergraduate course area
- Applicant must have strong knowledge in the area of Tourism Management
- Previous successful teaching and marking experience especially at the first year level is an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge in EXCEL and Brock University's Brightspace Learning Management System (LMS) or equivalent
- Work experience in the Tourism industry is an asset.
- Ability to perform the various duties of the position
- Available during normal office hours for group meetings
- Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
- Must be dependable and have strong time management skills.
- Previous experience in coordinating and managing people is an asset.
- High level of interpersonal skills and effective verbal communication
- Evidence of on-going professional development is an asset.
- Academic integrity and professionalism

Members shall not accept any appointment which, taken together with all other appointments at the University, would cause the member to exceed the maximum number of regular hours (i.e., not overtime hours) allowable in a work week under the Employment Standards Act, as amended from time to time.

b.It is the responsibility of the member to accept only as many appointments (i.e. hours of work) as will allow their to successfully complete the duties assigned for each appointment. It is understood that members who accept multiple appointments will be held to the same standards and expectations as other members of the Bargaining Unit and other members working in the same course and/or department.
