What We Do
The Alex is a beacon of hope for Calgary’s most vulnerable citizens, offering wrap-around health care, housing, social, and wellness programs. With a patient and client-centered approach, we envision a community where every individual is valued and empowered to thrive. Our mission is to improve quality of life through accessible and integrated health, housing, and social services. With five decades of experience, we have earned a reputation for tackling tough health and social issues, guiding individuals on their journey from crisis to wellness, and from challenge to change.
The Alex Mobile Care Clinic delivers barrier-free health care directly to individuals in need across Calgary. Operating from a specially equipped vehicle, our multidisciplinary team provides primary care, mental health support, addiction services, and social care to individuals experiencing homelessness or facing challenges accessing traditional care. Rooted in harm reduction and trauma-informed practices, the Mobile Care Clinic meets people where they are, physically and emotionally, offering compassionate, dignified care on wheels.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the RN works to full scope of practice through the application of knowledge to “assist clients in meeting their health needs in whatever setting, complexity and situation they occur throughout the life span. Scope of practice includes all the interventions that registered nurses are authorized, educated and competent to perform. It is limited by the specific competencies of the individual registered nurse to perform the activities necessary for the client population with whom that nurse practice, within applicable legislation and requirements of the employers as described in employer policies.” — College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta, Scope of practice for Registered Nurses, 2011.
