Job description
About Growcer

Growcer is the world's largest provider of indoor, modular vertical farm solutions, working with communities and organizations across North America to grow and store food year-round anywhere. Recently, we acquired Freight Farms, bringing together two category leaders to expand our footprint, deepen our expertise, and strengthen the support network available to our customers.

By partnering with municipalities, First Nations and Indigenous communities, Tribal Nations, and other community organizations in Canada and the USA, we empower year-round sustainable food production and storage and strengthen food sovereignty. To date, we've launched more than 900 projects globally. Our holistic approach includes planning solutions, fundraising, food infrastructure, commissioning support, training programs, capacity-building programs (such as our popular "Rootcamps"), and ongoing support services—enabling communities to achieve lasting impact. Growcer's work has been recognized with awards, including Fast Company's World Changing Ideas and the Entrepreneurs' Organization, and was featured on Season 13 of CBC's Dragons' Den.

Reconciliation

The Growcer team acknowledges that we work with many Territories and Treaty areas, and we are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are with us today, those who have gone before us, and the youth who inspire us.

We recognize the land and the benefits it provides all of us, as an act of Reconciliation, as recommended by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) 94 Calls to Action, and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on, work on, or are visiting.

Growcer is committed to progressing the path of Reconciliation in a deeply meaningful way, in partnership with Indigenous and First Nations Peoples, and is dedicated to fulfilling our role and responsibilities in this regard.

Position Summary

The Community Development Project Specialist (Sales Enablement Support) works closely with community champions and leadership to turn plans into action across multiple Indigenous and Tribal Nation opportunities.

Working as part of a three-person pod—Business Development (initiating discussions), Account Executive (confirming community vision, project scope, and engagement), and you (coordinating next steps to prepare the community for the project)—this role orchestrates meetings, planning, and resources to keep every account moving forward.

You'll manage 40+ active accounts in the CRM, circulate timely recap notes and follow-ups, maintain ongoing communication with community stakeholders, prepare proposals, track funding windows, and prepare communities for funding applications, and manage risks. You'll also support conferences (pre-event outreach, on-site notes, post-event follow-ups) and liaise with Operations, Grant Writing, Customer Success, Finance, and Legal to assemble quotes, MoUs, DCRs/BCRs, feasibility studies, and business plan packages.

The ideal candidate is an ultra-organized communicator who is culturally respectful, thrives in a fast-moving, consultative environment, and is comfortable traveling 25–40% across Canada and the USA to support community meetings and events.

Key Responsibilities
Project Momentum Ownership
  • Drive post-engagement coordination: agendas, next steps, owners, and dates after every meeting
  • Maintain a 40+ account book with clear stages, risks, and funding/council timelines
  • Keep opportunities moving: schedule follow-ups, send recaps within 24–48 hours, and unblock issues fast
  • Prepare client-ready materials (emails, one-pagers, light proposals/SOWs) tailored to each community
  • Coordinate with internal teams (Operations, Legal, Finance, Grant Writing) to compile complete proposal packages, including quotes, grants documentation, MoUs, DCRs/BCRs, feasibility studies, and business plans
Relationship Building & Community Engagement
  • Multithread stakeholders (Chief/Council, Health, Education, Lands/Water, EcDev) and maintain accurate contact maps
  • Communicate with cultural care; observe protocols and coordinate language/access needs
  • Arrange demos, site tours, and reference calls; manage invites, logistics, and post-meeting summaries
  • Capture objections/questions, draft thoughtful responses with AE/BD input, and close the loop
  • Be a reliable point of contact—responsive, respectful, and solutions-oriented
Funding & Readiness Support
  • Track funding windows, eligibility criteria, and application deadlines across all active accounts
  • Prepare communities for funding applications by coordinating required documentation and readiness activities
  • Partner with the grant writing team to ensure alignment on community priorities and timelines
  • Monitor funding status and proactively alert communities and internal teams of upcoming opportunities
Strategy & Collaboration
  • Partner with BD and AE to prioritize regions/opportunities and align on account plans
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Customer Success, Finance, and Legal to ensure seamless proposal development
  • Manage handoffs between departments to maintain project momentum and quality
Event Participation & Thought Leadership
  • Support 25–40% travel: pre-event outreach/scheduling, booth coverage, and on-site note-taking
  • Ensure disciplined lead capture and complete 48-hour post-event follow-ups in CRM
  • Prepare concise event briefs and debriefs with clear actions, owners, and timelines
  • Represent Growcer's mission credibly and consistently in community settings
Risk Management & Problem Solving
  • Identify, track, and manage account-level risks and blockers
  • Proactively flag issues requiring leadership intervention or cross-functional support
  • Coordinate mitigation strategies to keep opportunities on track
Performance, Reporting & Tracking
  • Own pipeline hygiene: accurate stages, next steps, documents, and stakeholder notes
  • Report weekly KPIs (touches, meetings, second meetings, proposals out, blockers cleared)
  • Monitor conversion health (connect→meeting→opportunity→close) and course-correct when off pace
  • Maintain comprehensive risk tracking and escalation protocols
Qualifications
  • Experience & Knowledge
    • 2+ years in project coordination, sales coordination, customer success, or community/economic development roles supporting multi-stakeholder work.
    • Experience working with First Nation/Indigenous communities or Tribal Nations (or strong motivation to learn)
    • University or College Education is Not Required: We value lived experience and recognize that practical knowledge—particularly in community-based contexts—can be just as impactful as formal education.
  • Skills & Competencies
    • Communication: Exceptional presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex solutions to diverse audiences.
    • Cultural Sensitivity: Familiarity with or willingness to learn about Indigenous cultures, governance frameworks, and community decision-making processes.
    • Organizational Ability: Skilled at juggling multiple priorities, keeping CRM data updated, and ensuring clear next steps for all stakeholders.
    • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment; proactive in identifying opportunities and solving problems.
  • Additional Requirements
    • Travel: Willingness to travel for in-person meetings, conferences, and community events; occasional work outside normal office hours to accommodate various time zones. Able to travel in Canada and USA.
    • Valid Driver’s License: Required for travel to client sites.
    • Indigenous Applicants: Candidates who self-identify as Indigenous are strongly encouraged to apply.
Why Growcer?
  • Meaningful Impact: Contribute directly to initiatives that enhance food sovereignty and community resilience.
  • Collaborative Team: Join a group of dedicated professionals who value cross-functional collaboration, knowledge sharing, and camaraderie.
  • Growth Opportunities: Advance your career in a rapidly growing organization that offers ongoing learning, development, and leadership opportunities.
  • Competitive Package: Enjoy a comprehensive compensation and benefits package designed to support your well-being and success.
    • Base salary will be in the range of 60-80k CAD, depending on years of experience
    • On Target Earnings (OTE) $97-117k
  • Remote position with on-site visits to HQ in Ottawa, ON as required.
