About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary Full‑Time Summer Law Student to join our Legal team in Ottawa.

Responsibilities

The Legal team supports Canadian Blood Services by providing legal advice and guidance. In this role, you will:

  • Perform legal research and prepare memoranda in areas such as health, regulatory, corporate/commercial, privacy, torts, employment, and administrative law.
  • Monitor federal, provincial, territorial statutes, regulations, and case law, and communicate updates on national and international legal developments relevant to the organization.
  • Support ongoing projects in the Legal Division and collaborate with team members and other divisions.
  • Provide analysis and oversight for legislative and regulatory surveillance.
Desired education and skills
  • Currently enrolled in a Common Law program at a recognized Canadian institution; at least one year of study completed.
  • Strong legal research and statutory analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of legal research tools (e.g., Quicklaw) and ability to locate updated statutes and regulations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of Quicklaw and foreign jurisdiction legal development tracking is an asset.
