Job summary
A community-focused organization in Canada seeks a Finance and Audit Committee Volunteer to oversee compliance with finance policies and review monthly financial statements. Responsibilities include managing the annual audit, advising on budgets, and providing recommendations to the Board of Directors. Ideal candidates should have experience in accounting or finance, and prior board experience is a plus. This role requires 3-5 hours per month and involves remote work.
Qualifications
- Experience or education in accounting, finance, or bookkeeping.
- Prior board or committee experience is advantageous.
- Diverse business or governance experience is beneficial.
Responsibilities
- Oversee compliance and maintenance of finance policies.
- Review monthly financial statements for the Treasurer.
- Oversee the annual audit and review findings.
- Create annual budget with Fundraising Committee.
- Advise on investment of funds.

- Oversee the annual audit, review findings, and review final financial statements
- Review and provide recommendations to the Board of Directors on matters pertaining to the monthly financial statements or other financial matters
- Create, in collaboration with the Fundraising Committee, the annual budget and present it to the Board of Directors
- Oversee and advise on investment of funds
- Recommend acceptance of final financial statement to the Board of Directors
- Recommend appointment of auditors to the Board of Directors
- Accounting, finance, or bookkeeping experience or education (e.g., Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting major) or professional designation such as CPA, CFA, etc.)
- Prior board or board committee experience is an asset
- Diverse business or governance experience is an asset
Committee meetings are held monthly on the second Monday evening of the month, with regular requests for input required between meetings. Expected monthly hours are 3-5 per month.
