Arthritis Line Volunteer
Job summary
A charitable organization is seeking volunteers for the Arthritis Line to assist individuals affected by arthritis across Canada. Volunteers will provide support via phone, email, and chat, while contributing to important data entry and documentation tasks. This remote position requires a commitment of two hours per week for at least six months. Ideal candidates will possess strong communication and problem-solving skills.

- Provide information and support to people affected by arthritis.
- Support inquiries via phone, email, or website chat.
- Direct callers to online tools and local resources.
Skills
Arthritis Line volunteer answers inquiries received through our nationwide arthritis information and support system and actively communicates crucial information and offers support to people affected by arthritis across Canada.
Arthritis Line volunteers are asked to commit to one 2‑hour shift each week. We ask for a minimum commitment of 6 months, bi‑monthly Arthritis Line volunteer team meetings, and occasional professional development sessions offered throughout the year.
- Monday: 3 pm – 5 pm
- Tuesday: 11 am – 1 pm or 3 pm – 5 pm
- Thursday: 9 am – 11 am or 3 pm – 5 pm
- Friday: 9 am – 11 am or 3 pm – 5 pm
- Provide information and support to people affected by arthritis.
- Support inquiries via phone, email, and/or website chat.
- Support callers who may feel emotional, overwhelmed, or fearful.
- Direct callers to the online tools and resources on the Arthritis Society Canada website.
- Direct callers to local supports and resources.
- Inform callers about upcoming education opportunities with Arthritis Society Canada.
- Data entry related to interactions, tracking, and reporting/documentation.
- Passionate about and committed to bettering the lives of those affected by arthritis.
- Willingness to undertake training appropriate to the role and learn about arthritis and Arthritis Society Canada’s resources.
- Ability to work effectively with staff and other volunteers remotely.
- Experience working and interacting with people.
- Effective problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to adjust tone and voice depending on audience.
- Lived experience or knowledge of arthritis is an asset.
- Comfort and experience working with technology.
- Experience and knowledge related to the impacts of arthritis is an asset, but not required.
- An Arthritis Society Canada staff member will directly oversee this role.
- People affected by arthritis, and people interested in learning more about arthritis and Arthritis Society Canada.
- Other volunteers and Arthritis Society Canada staff.
This position is remote; volunteers can participate where they have access to internet and a private environment.
