A midwifery practice in Alberta is seeking two full-time midwives to join their close-knit team in Red Deer. The ideal candidates will manage a caseload of 60-80 births annually while working collaboratively with local healthcare teams. Applicants must be registered midwives in Alberta with excellent communication skills and a passion for offering high-quality care. The start date is negotiable, and mentorship is available for new registrants. Interested candidates should send their resume and cover letter via email.
Have you been looking for just the right work family? People that love what they do and love the people they work with; clients, midwives, and hospital staff included? For a community that welcomes midwives wholeheartedly, and works well collaboratively? Believe it or not, Red Deer may be the place for you.
Prairie Midwives is looking for 2 full-time general registrants to share our love of midwifery in the ‘rural/urban’ city of Red Deer. Red Deer is situated in the middle of Central Alberta, about 90 minutes between both the urban centres of Calgary and Edmonton, and only 2 hours from the beautiful Rocky Mountains. We serve both Red Deer and surrounding communities, giving our practice an urban and rural feel.
Prairie Midwives has been an established practice since 2012 and has grown steadily for the last 13 years. Our clinic is located in a central downtown location and we are currently the only midwifery practice in the city. We provide part-time administrative support and EMR (Accuro) access. Demand for care is very high and we boast a relatively high homebirth rate of 30-50%. We are a close‑knit group of people, dedicated to our craft.
We are currently looking for a midwife to provide shared call with one partner to manage a caseload of 60-80 courses of care per year and is flexible in looking at schedules to maximize work life balance. Start date is June 1, 2025, but is negotiable. New registrants are welcome to apply and mentorship will be happily provided.
Our midwives hold privileges primarily at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, where we have been welcomed as part of the healthcare team. It is a level II hospital with access to specialties when needed, and we do provide waterbirth services in our hospital. We have excellent relationships with our fellow MRHPs and consultants.
The successful candidate will require a strong work ethic and firmly seated passion in delivering midwifery care. We are incredibly proud of our workplace culture that fosters supportive care for both clients and midwives, and anyone that joins our practice would have to have excellent interpersonal communication skills and a commitment to meeting and working within our vision. You must be able to work as a Registered Midwife in Alberta.
Please send a resume, cover letter, and references to j enn@prairiemidwives.ca. Or, just email and arrange a chat to discuss all that our practice has to offer. Check out our website to learn a little more about us, our community, and our practice at www.prairiemidwives.ca
