The Recreation Coordinator assesses, develops, and coordinates the delivery of social, recreational, therapeutic programs consistent with the needs, interests and abilities of persons in care. Respects and promotes the dignity and individuality of each person in care by recognizing them as individuals with unique cultural, spiritual, and psycho-social needs.
Person-and family-centered care (PFCC)
Person-and family-centered care (PFCC) is an approach to care that recognizes the importance of family in a patient’s life and the importance of their active involvement in planning and making decisions on health care, services and treatment, and health system reform. This approach to care provides respectful, compassionate, culturally safe, and responsive care that meets the needs, values, beliefs, and preferences of the patient, their family, and others identified as significant to their life from diverse backgrounds and settings.
Casual Position: Requires 1-3 days of daytime/weekday availability. Must be willing to service Kingston, and either Belleville or Gananoque
Education, Requirements, Skills
- Experience in assessments and building engaging programs to reflect the functional, social and wellness needs of a patient in their home environment.
- Experience in a social service or long-term care, retirement setting an asset
- Experience and skills in facilitating activation and restorative functional program and activities.
- Demonstrated experience planning programs for patients with mild-cognitive impairment and various physical and functional limitations
- Able to assist patient in their home with basic living needs ( social connections, falls prevention)
- Able to assist in functional activities (dressing, restorative activity exercise plans
- Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills.
- Excellent communication in English (verbal and in writing);
- Strong computer skills ability to work in an electronic health record.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others and as part of an inter-disciplinary team in the community.
- Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
- Creative, energetic, approachable, and highly motivated to work directly with patients in their home.
- Genuine interest in working with seniors and frail elderly population
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
- Owns a car and is able to get to provide care in patients home.
- Attends team meetings as requested
Education Requirements
- Diploma in Recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, or equivalent
- Gentle persuasion or Montessori preferred
Other Requirements
- Exceptional command of the English language as required for documentation and oral communications
- Current criminal reference check and vulnerable sector screen
- Demonstrated basic knowledge of various software programs including word, excel and power point and proficiency with email
Experience
- Minimum 1-3 years of recreational coordinator/activation experience
- Prior experience conducting assessments and building patient focused programs

- Enjoy working with clients of all ages and seniors in particular
- Reliability, time management and the ability to prioritize workload is crucial.
- Creative, energetic and approachable with exceptional interpersonal and decision-making skills
