Remote Opportunity - Preference for candidates based in Vancouver

The Indirect Tax Accountant plays an essential role in growing talent in our business through collaboration and sharing best practices with the Accounting and wider Finance team. You know how to be curious about opportunities and how to be real with feedback and support.

As the Indirect Tax Accountant, you will be a key player on the finance team, ensuring smooth operations and inquiries. You will manage timely filing of sales taxes for 270 retail stores across Canada, Puerto Rico, and the USA. You will collaborate closely with tax and accounting teams serving various business units including Digital, Retail, Manufacturing, and Admin/Corporate.

• Prepare monthly sales tax calculations, journal entries, and reconciliations for accurate tax reporting using sales tax software, and coordinate remittance payments.
• Prepare state/city excise tax, business & occupancy, gross receipts, commerce, and annual business tax returns.
• Support and gather information for sales and use tax notices and audits (internal and external).
• Collaborate on sales tax compliance for store openings, relocations, closures, and new initiatives; renew seller tax permits.
• If based in Vancouver, monitor mailroom and emails for seller tax permit renewals, notices, and audits.
• Assist with ad hoc tax and finance responsibilities as needed.

Required:

• Minimum 2 years of accounting and tax experience.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
• Proactive with initiative.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
• Capable of working under time pressure.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
• Honest, transparent, and with integrity.
• Flexible and committed to team objectives.

Preferred:

• Undergraduate degree in business and pursuing an accounting designation.
• Experience with Avalara sales tax software.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP.

Job Type: Regular Full-Time

Salary Range: $70,000-$75,000 CAD, based on market and location, excluding bonuses and total rewards.
