Job summary

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Healthy Communities, the Youth Health Centre Coordinator (YHCC) is an active member of the Healthy Communities Public Health Team and works within the Public Health Standards and Protocols with a Health Promoting Schools Approach, guided by the Public Health, Health Promoting Schools Standards.

The YHCC provides leadership, informal assessment, service navigation, youth engagement, and support for youth associated with the assigned school facility and its immediate community. The YHCC champions youth health, health equity, and facilitates youth engagement as a component of health‑promoting schools. The position works with youth and fosters cooperation and collaboration among school administrators, teachers, SchoolsPlus, guidance, student/youth support workers, primary health care, mental health and addictions, and other community partners to ensure youth have access to support, programs, and services within the school and community that promote health. The YHCC models and provides safe, equitable, inclusive youth support and understands the diverse experiences of the school and the surrounding community.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Baccalaureate degree in a relevant health care discipline (registered nurse, occupational therapist, social work, nutritionist).
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a relevant field; directly working with youth is required.
  • Registered/licensed with your regulated health care discipline, college or association is required (registered nurse, occupational therapist, social work, nutritionist).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team both within the organization and in the community.
  • Ability to critically assess situations, and navigate complex scenarios using sound decision‑making and a non‑judgmental, trauma‑informed approach in supporting youth.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in creating opportunities for meaningful youth engagement and fostering youth leadership.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the social determinants of health, health equity, and the impact on health outcomes for youth, families, and communities.
  • Experience in the application of public health principles and practices, partnership development, and community development.
  • Experience relevant to children and youth, health promotion strategies in school and community settings preferred.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

  • Permanent, Part‑time position; 37.5 hours biweekly.

Compensation and Benefits

$38.43 - $50.99 hourly
