Overview

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering can be a great way to give back to the community, to meet new friends, and to gain valuable skills. SHARE Family & Community Services is built on a strong volunteer foundation. We are looking for caring, respectful individuals who are passionate about the health of older adults to support seniors registered in the Better at Home program.

Program

Tri-Cities Better at Home program helps seniors with simple day-to-day tasks so they can live independently at home and stay connected to their communities. Services include light housekeeping, grocery shopping, friendly visiting, transportation to medical appointments, minor home repair, and food support.

Location

Location: 3020 Lincoln Ave #104, Coquitlam, BC V3B 7L9

Duration

Minimum Commitment: 4-6 months

  • Availability required during the week
Volunteer Roles
  • Friendly Visiting Volunteers: Friendly Home Visiting Services or regular Phone Visits to reduce social isolation. This does not involve personal home care or driving clients.
  • Food Support Service: Deliver food hampers to seniors’ homes from SHARE Food Bank in Port Moody.
  • Grocery Shoppers: Take grocery orders by phone or email and process with the grocery store. In-person shopping is also possible to accompany seniors to stores in the Tri-Cities.
  • Transportation Services: Volunteer drivers provide transportation to medical appointments and other eligible appointments within the Tri-Cities or across Metro Vancouver. Use personal or agency vehicles; pick up at doorstep and return home.
  • Senior’s Information Line: Answer the Tri-Cities Senior’s Information Line and provide resource navigation and information about SHARE or community services.
  • Handy Helper: Assist with minor repairs (plumbing, carpentry, electrical). Do not include extensive renovations, furniture moving, painting, or exterior work. Mileage reimbursement is available.
