Job Description

Our client, an established and growing organization, is seeking an experienced Vice President of Finance to play a pivotal role in launching a new business model. This position is responsible for driving financial strategy, overseeing day-to-day operations, and ensuring the company's long-term success. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience as a strategic partner—actively shaping organizational vision and confidently delivering proactive, data-driven recommendations to leaders. This position will report directly into the CEO.

Location: On-site, Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge area

Responsibilities
  • Lead financial strategic planning including budgeting, forecasting, regulation changes, capital and investment planning in conjunction with the company's short- and long-term goals.
  • Navigate cash flow complexities caused by front-loaded expenses—such as customer acquisition and product development—while revenue is realized gradually through subscription models.
  • Use data analytics and scenario modeling to inform pricing strategies, market expansion, and resource allocation.
  • Establish KPIs that provide insight into the company's health, scalability, and growth potential for the new business model.
  • Align financial goals with customer success strategies by collaborating with fellow leaders, ensuring the most effective strategic approach.
  • Champion the acceptance of integrated financial software and automation that will streamline processes like complex billing and reporting.
  • Research, identify, and pursue government grants, subsidies, and funding programs available to businesses to support growth and innovation.
  • Manage company cash flow and provide strategic recommendations to the CEO based on current financial position and future projections.
  • Review monthly financial statements drafted by the accounting team; perform in-depth analysis where required.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the accounting team, foster professional growth and ensure accuracy and excellence in all deliverables.
  • Responsible for internal controls and compliance; staying up to date on changes to finance/tax legislation and regulation changes and proposing implementations.
  • Build and maintain relationship with external partners (tax, banking and investment consulting, legal counsel etc.).
  • Liaise, as needed, with external auditors regarding annual yearend review.
Qualifications
  • Ten or more years of experience at a director level or above
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA considered an asset.
  • Completion of CPA designation
  • Experience in technology/software industry is required
  • Executive experience with SaaS business models
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills
  • Proactive, team-oriented approach
  • Thrives in dynamic, rapidly changing settings
