Responsibilities

• Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
• Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy.
• Load and unload goods.
• Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes.
• Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
• Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment.
• Perform emergency roadside repairs.
• Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle.
• Perform preventive maintenance.
• Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.

Qualifications

• Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
• Experience: 1 to less than 7 months.
• Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses: AZ class license; Air Brakes Endorsement; Air Brake (Z) Endorsement; WHMIS Certificate.
• Documentation knowledge: Accident or incident reports; Bill of lading; Dangerous goods occurrence reports; Driver logbook; Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip); Maintenance and repair reports; Trans-border documentation; Trip reports.
