The Opportunity: Supervisor- Nursing Services, Home & Clinical Care Temporary Full-Time

Reporting to the Manager of Nursing Services, this position is responsible for the clinical supervision of nursing staff in the Ottawa region. In collaboration with the Professional Practice Lead (Nursing), the Nursing Supervisor is responsible for orienting new staff, identifying and following up with job performance issues, providing clinical support, participating in client case conferences, providing ongoing training and assessments, and completing regular performance reviews.
As a critical resource to the Nursing team, the Nursing Supervisor will support the Nursing Team in providing safe, client-centered care by modeling practice standards, defining care processes and procedures, and collaborating in the design of Nurses’ education and training.
Striving for excellence in quality client care, the position provides leadership and supports the implementation of evidence-based professional practice projects, programs, and initiatives for the Nursing Team.

- Assists the Manager of Nursing Services with the overall operation and performance of the Nursing program.
- Acts as a resource, support and mentor to the Nursing Team and provides coaching, education, and instruction to encourage individual and operational performance objectives. Encourage and model critical clinical inquiry that cultivates evidence-informed practice.
- Completes Performance Appraisals with assigned nurses and engages with the Manager of Nursing and Professional Practice Lead regarding any performance issues which require disciplinary action.
- Contributes to human resources management including labour and employee relations, discipline, health and safety, continuing education, performance development, recognition of staff and orientation, as required.
- Assists the Manager in recruitment, anticipates and monitors staffing needs and initiates appropriate action to obtain/maintain an adequate compliment of nursing staff, as required.
- Investigates and evaluates client and staff concerns/complaints and implements appropriate resolutions, as required.
- Provides leadership coverage of the Nursing Team as required (i.e. Manager of Nursing).
- Oversees nursing services in collaboration with the Nursing Manager (i.e. foot care, shift nursing program, clinics).
- Leads by example and promotes continuous quality improvement.
- Understands, promotes, and communicates the value, purpose, and goals of the nursing program.
- Working with the Nursing Manager in the evaluation and revision of nursing policies and procedures, based on changes in practice and requirements from funder or partner organization.
- Ensures that the quality of client care delivery is consistent with Carefor’s mission, vision, values and strategic plan.
- Meets the contractual terms set forth by external/funding partners and maintains communication with these partners as needed.
- Assists with operation of the program. Provision of direct client care as required.
- Collaborate to address quality, safety and risk management issues, including the creation of professional development and performance improvement plans to address shortfalls.
- Contribute to the improvement of client outcomes (quality of life and quality of care) based on best available evidence and efficient utilization of resources.
- Monitor federal, provincial, and other relevant legislation/regulations for compliances and collaborate on strategies to address opportunities for improvement.
- Contribute to business development initiatives, as required.
- Support the Nursing Team through regular meetings, orientation, mentorship, consultation and guidance with complex clinical situations. Participate on internal and external committees as required.
- Operates within as well as monitors individual, staff, and program compliance to Occupational Health and Safety Legislation, standards, and Carefor Policies & Procedures.
- Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
- Three (3) years recent experience of working within the Adult Home Health Care sector with related expert practice skills to support the provision of Nursing care to older adults.
- Knowledge of the related regulatory and legislative requirements within Ontario is required.
- Certification in clinical specialties and chronic disease management is preferred.
- Ability to promote and facilitate evidence based practice within a community setting with a demonstrated expertise and ability to apply, teach, coach and mentor individuals and teams.
- Superior communication skills and ability to communicate effectively to direct and motivate others while maintaining a persuasive and credible presentation style at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated effective critical thinking, analytical, and problem-resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
- Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
- Bilingualism (French/English) considered an asset.
The hiring range for this position is $42.28 – $50.69/per hour which reflects the expected starting salary based on qualifications and experience. Please note, this is not the full salary range for the position. Opportunities for growth within the full salary range are available in alignment with organizational policies and performance.
