Job description
Supervision Aide - Theresa Clarke Elementary

Supervision Aides provide supervision to elementary and secondary school students in school buildings and grounds during the lunch break. A Supervision Aide monitors student activities in hallways, classrooms and other locations. This job is an ideal part-time opportunity for retirees, post-secondary students and adults who relate well to children and youth and are free during lunch hour to work at our district schools.

Hours
  • 1 hour per day (up to 5 days per week)
  • Casual On-Call and Continuing assignments available.
Pay Rate

$26.00 per hour.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise designated areas during the lunch hour to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the students, including ensuring safe playing habits and promoting acceptable behavior.
  • Recognize safety hazards and concerns in advance.
  • Maintain a high degree of visibility.
  • Address inappropriate student behaviour with courtesy and respect without escalating the situation, request support from Administration when necessary.
  • Perform related duties, as required.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
  • As communication is critical to this role, strong English language communication skills are required, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgement and appropriate intervention techniques regarding student behaviour.
  • Be a role model for students and have an ability to connect with children and youth.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all district staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work on feet for duration of the shift.
Qualifications
  • In addition to excellent communication and interpersonal skills, experience supervising groups of school-aged children, knowledge of first aid, and other related training such as conflict resolution or non-violent crisis intervention, is considered an asset.
