Job Title: Subject Matter Expert- Occupational Health and Safety

Location: Remote

Hours: Part-Time, up to 20 hours per week; hours may vary based on operational needs

Start Date: Immediate

End Date: February 27, 2026

Compensation: $32/hr - $34/hr

The Opportunity:

The Occupational Health and Safety Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for providing industry and academic expertise to support the development of a new diploma program in Occupational Health and Safety.

Working collaboratively with academic leadership and instructional design teams, the SME will contribute to the creation and validation of curriculum components to ensure regulatory compliance, industry relevance, and alignment with adult learning principles.

What you'll be doing:

  • Booklist and Learning Resources
  • Recommend current, industry-recognized textbooks, reference materials, standards, and supplemental resources aligned with program outcomes and regulatory expectations
  • Ensure resources reflect current occupational health and safety legislation, standards, and best practices
  • Course Outlines and Curriculum Content
  • Develop and/or review course outlines, including course descriptions, learning outcomes, instructional methods, and evaluation strategies
  • Ensure course content aligns with industry competencies, workplace expectations, and applicable legislation
  • Assist in defining and validating program-level learning outcomes and vocational competencies
  • Align competencies with relevant National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes and employer expectations
  • Provide subject‑matter input to support the completion of adult learning questionnaires or instructional methodology documentation required for program approval
  • Ensure instructional approaches reflect adult learning principles, applied learning, and competency‑based education
  • Review and validate ancillary program documentation, including admission requirements, career outcomes, instructional delivery descriptions, and regulatory disclosures
  • Provide guidance on industry terminology, scope of practice, and professional expectations
  • Collaboration and Review
  • Participate in scheduled meetings, reviews, and consultations with academic, regulatory, and instructional design teams
  • Provide timely feedback and revisions as required to meet submission timelines

What you bring to the position:

  • Post‑secondary diploma or degree inOccupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experiencein occupational health and safety roles (such as: OHS Specialist, Coordinator, Manager).
  • Strong working knowledge of:
  • Ontario Occupational Health and Safety legislation and regulatory frameworks.
  • Industry standards and best practices.
  • Workplace safety programs and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with curriculum development, training delivery, or educational consulting is considered an asset.
  • Professional designations (such as:CRSP,CHSC, or equivalent) are preferred.
