A leading automotive company in York Region is seeking a Staff Software Test Specialist to lead the design of advanced test frameworks and tools. The ideal candidate has over 8 years of experience, significant technical leadership, and extensive knowledge of multiple programming languages including C/C++ and Python. This hybrid role involves collaboration with various business units to ensure high-quality software testing in automotive platforms.
Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three days per week, at minimum

GM is developing the next generation of embedded platform software to deliver state-of-the-art features to our customers. To achieve that goal, our testing processes, tools, and infrastructure need to evolve. We are looking for energetic engineers to deliver high quality test tools and infrastructure to ensure the correctness of our software.
The AV Integrity Platform (AVIP) Verification team is responsible for testing and driving quality of the ADAS diagnostic software as well as the software that configures devices like lidars, cameras, radars, and IMUs and delivers sensor data to the AV stack running on GM vehicles.
This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to ensure the delivery of robust, scalable, and high-performance software. We are looking for a hands-on technical leader to dive deep into our testing tool chain and test frameworks. Standardize and create tools to aid in software verification, define test capability growth strategies, and implement new processes to streamline our quality.
As a Staff Software Test Specialist, you will take input from various customer teams and, partnering with the CTC Software Development & Integration lab, bring their need for comprehensive testing to life. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with different business units throughout GM and pursue technical and leadership growth.
Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced test frameworks, tools, and infrastructure.
Define and drive the overall test capability strategy for complex features and end-to-end systems, ensuring comprehensive test coverage enablement.
Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and best practices to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our testing processes.
Contribute significantly to the architectural design and review of new features and systems from a testability, reliability, and performance perspective.
Drive a culture of quality throughout the development lifecycle, advocating for shift-left testing principles.
Develop and maintain robust, scalable, and maintainable testing capabilities (unit, integration, API, performance, security) using various programming languages (e.g., C++, Rust, Go, Python) at various testing levels (SIL, Bench, Vehicle, etc).
Integrate test capabilities into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring continuous feedback and early detection of issues.
Implement advanced monitoring and alerting for production systems to identify and proactively address quality issues.
Champion best practices in software development, testing, and quality assurance across the engineering organization as well as maintain comprehensive metrics to evaluate strategy effectiveness.
Support SW Test Specialists across the AVIP Verification organization to break down testing roadblocks and complete text execution deliverables.
8+ years of progressive experience as a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) or a similar role, with at least 2-3 years in technical leadership.
10+ years of experience in multiple programming languages such asC/C++, Rust,Python,Go,etc.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
Deep experience designing, building andmaintainingrobust test infrastructure (e.g.,Open Loop benches, Closed loop benches, Vehicle instrumentation, etc.).
Strong understanding and hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g.Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions,BuildKite,Azure DevOps).
Understanding of Vehicle Electrical Architecture and common automotive software design practices.
Understanding of typical fault insertion techniques
Experienceusing and development on open-source automation frameworkssuch asRobot.
Experience building andmaintaininghardware-in-the-loop test platforms.
5+ years of experience in Automotive SW Test or Development, including experience with test automation and test or software architecture.
Experience withbuildsystems such as Bazel, or alternatives likeCMakeor Meson.
Familiarity with embedded Linux build systems such asBuildrootorYocto.
Experience working with sensor technologies, particularly automotive grade (cameras, lidars, radars, IMUs)
