Overview

Zurich Canada is seeking a Middle Market Senior Underwriter or Underwriting Specialist to join the Technology practice. The role reports to the VP, Industry Verticals, Canada Middle Market, and involves handling complex new and renewal Middle Markets business while serving as a Subject Matter Expert for the Technology practice. This hybrid position offers the opportunity to apply and develop underwriting and marketing skills and to build relationships with distribution partners in a collaborative, values-driven environment.

What you will do
  • Serve as a customer industry advocate with a focus on improving the customer experience by understanding risk and offering end-to-end insurance solutions.
  • Use a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment and pricing.
  • Leverage risk insights, data and models to drive informed decisions at the point of sale.
  • Identify gaps and align Zurich’s products and value proposition to deliver contract certainty for customers.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and act as an innovative advisor.
  • Underwrite, analyze and generate new and renewal business.
  • Market-facing and production activities within the growing Middle Markets division.
  • Administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, insurance laws and rating manual rules.
  • Develop and maintain broker relationships.
  • Work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.
Job Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent with 5+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing roles, or 10+ years in claims or underwriting support, or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years in underwriting/market facing, or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8+ years in claims/underwriting support, plus
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience meeting quotes deadlines for new and renewal business
  • Experience working in a team environment

Preferred:

  • Existing broker relationships
  • Cyber and E&O experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Knowledge of Middle Markets Property and Casualty underwriting
  • Strong negotiation, verbal and written communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Presentation, solutions and service orientation
  • Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, and filing regulations
Compensation

Compensation varies by location, role, skill set and experience. The salary range provided is a nationwide market range and may be adjusted for geographic differences. Starting salary ranges are:

  • Senior Underwriter – $85,000 to $105,000
  • Underwriting Specialist – $115,000 to $135,000
