Job description

Reporting to the AVP Play (Sport, Rec), this position is responsible for underwriting the relevant line of business within agreed business plan parameters, and in line with underwriting authority, to achieve targeted combined ratios. The role involves developing and maintaining a profitable portfolio through marketing, analysis, sales, service, and underwriting.

We seek an individual to underwrite and service a growing book of business, including risk selection, coverage negotiation, and pricing on new and renewal business.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Markel PLAY, this position supports the development and maintenance of a profitable portfolio through marketing, analysis, sales, service, and underwriting.

What you'll be doing:

• Support the development and maintenance of a profitable portfolio of desirable business.
• Underwrite and service a growing book of business, including risk selection, coverage negotiation, and pricing, in accordance with underwriting authorities and company guidelines.
• Review and process changes on existing accounts to ensure compliance with policy conditions and underwriting philosophy.
• Identify and develop new business sources; assist in marketing strategies for new or improved products.
• Collaborate with peers across product lines to leverage multi-line opportunities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with broker clients through regular engagement at industry events and conferences.
• Mentor junior team members on underwriting, marketing, and servicing techniques.
• Maintain industry knowledge, market intelligence, and trends.

Our must-haves:

• 5+ years of property and casualty underwriting experience.
• Experience in complex risk underwriting across various P&C lines, with preferred experience in Sport and Recreation.
• Proven success in underwriting large to multinational corporations, including Property, Casualty, and Excess lines.
• University degree; CIP or FCIP designation preferred.
• Expertise in policy wordings, forms, and coverages.
• Strong relationship management skills and a record of generating new business.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and administrative skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team under tight deadlines.
• Strong business acumen and external representation skills.
