Job description

Contract Term: 12 months with possible extension.

Location: This hybrid or onsite position requires candidates residing within the National Capital Region (NCR). Work from outside NCR is not permitted.

Hourly Pay: $46.00-$71.00 (expected hourly compensation for this role).

Summary of Role

The Network Specialist will support defense programs by planning, configuring, and managing network systems and military communications infrastructure. This includes wired and wireless communications, cryptographic devices, network lifecycle management, and testing across unit, integration, system, and acceptance levels. The role also involves producing technical documentation, coordinating test plans, and providing guidance to stakeholders and management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, initialize, configure, and employ wired military communications systems, including hardware, software, network components, and cryptographic devices.
  • Employ military radio communications systems in both narrow and wide bands.
  • Implement test plans across multiple levels, including unit, integration, regression, system, and user acceptance testing. This includes organizing, scheduling, and executing test events, as well as drafting and developing test reports.
  • Perform lifecycle management of network systems, including maintenance, upgrades, and operational support.
  • Draft and deliver presentations and briefings on test plans and results to management.
  • Provide technical advice, guidance, and recommendations to support decision‑making.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams to develop and support IT tactical systems or multi‑site enterprise networks.
  • Contribute to strategic, operational, or tactical planning for projects or systems to meet corporate objectives.
Requirements
  • Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Must have 96 months experience in the last 120 months in at least 3 of the following:
    • Planning, initializing, configuring, and employing wired military communications systems, including cryptography.
    • Employing military radio communications systems in narrow and wide bands.
    • Implementing and managing test plans across multiple levels and reporting results.
    • Lifecycle management of network systems.
  • Must have 96 months experience in the following:
    • Drafting and delivering presentations and briefings regarding test plans and results.
    • Providing technical advice and recommendations to management.
    • Participating in multidisciplinary teams supporting IT tactical systems or enterprise networks.
    • Performing strategic, operational, or tactical planning activities.
Security Clearance
  • Must be eligible for Secret level Federal Security Clearance (generally requires 10 years of residence in Canada).
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) in network, software, computer, systems, electrical, or a suitable engineering or technical field (preferred), or
  • Alternatively, a STEM diploma (2-year minimum) in a related technical field.
Language Requirements
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is required for this role.
