Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant mechanical engineering design experience within the EPCM environment ideally with a focus on nuclear facilities.
  • Must be a currently licensed professional engineer (P.Eng, Ing, PE) in their province of practice.
  • Previous experience with nuclear, power plant projects desired.

Responsibilities

The Opportunity

Our Nuclear subsector, a key component of WSP’s ERI (Energy, Resources and Industry) sector, supports clients in the nuclear industry. Our team offers a wide range of services, including technical and feasibility studies, project management, detailed design, procurement, site management, quality surveillance, commissioning and asset management. This division is operating at an exciting time as nuclear power and new technology solutions are developing globally, with Canada as a leader in nuclear refurbishments, nuclear new builds, incredible capital projects portfolios and a deep history in nuclear supply chain.

WSP is currently seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer, Nuclear to join one of our Ontario offices. Several projects may require travel to Tiverton, Ontario; Toronto, Ontario; Saint John, New Brunswick; Pickering and Oshawa, Ontario.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Lead the design of mechanical piping and equipment for nuclear power generation facilities
  • Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, industry codes and standards to projects
  • Perform high-complexity engineering designs including analysis, calculations, research, and equipment selection
  • Develop P&IDs for power plant systems including steam cycles, boiler feed, condensate, water treatment, fuel gas, hydrogen, and utilities
  • Prepare sizing calculations and specifications for major equipment including, but not limited to, heat recovery steam generators, condensers, cooling towers, tanks, blowers, and pumps
  • Prepare construction/installation scopes of work for mechanical systems
  • Check design deliverables by industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards
  • Coordinate with other drafters, designers, and engineers and review work progress and results
  • Provide technical mentoring and/or oversight

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • University Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10+ years of relevant mechanical engineering design experience within the EPCM environment ideally with a focus on nuclear facilities
  • Must be a currently licensed professional engineer (P.Eng, Ing, PE) in their province of practice
  • Experience within the consulting environment desired
  • Previous experience with nuclear, power plant projects desired
  • Proven experience as a senior mechanical expert in front of clients with an ability to lead and mentor others
  • Working knowledge of Microstation or Auto CAD
  • Working knowledge of Smart Plant 3D or CADworx
  • Experience using Caesar II or AutoPipe
  • Experience using Thermoflow
  • Required: Must be able to pass Security Clearance
