Overview
Senior Long-Term Planning Engineer reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent within the Engineering Department. The role provides mine engineering services to meet the business needs in support of existing operations and the study/project pipeline, and strategic development activities. Works cross-departmentally with operations, maintenance and other line functions to ensure the plan is communicated and executed effectively while promoting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and environmental stewardship.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with HSSE policies, standards and procedures; ensure team members are fully trained and able to perform their duties safely.
- Develop strategic mine planning processes to support all mining-related activities.
- Collaborate with site functions to determine plan, design input parameters and assumptions; ensure all design work (pit slopes, dumps, stockpiles, roads, drill and blast) comply with AE standards and legislative requirements.
- Liaise with geology and geotechnical engineers to determine and apply design criteria for the mine being designed and with mine operations to ensure practicality of designs.
- Optimize phase designs and development strategies for mine sequences.
- Develop pit optimization and recommend the final pit shell selection.
- Collaborate with senior long-term engineer on mid-year and year-end Reserve Statement.
- Develop the Life of Mine (LOM) and End of Life of Mine (ELOM) in accordance with corporate and internal project deadlines and objectives.
- Design mine infrastructures: waste dumps, stockpiles, haul roads and other facilities required to support ore reserves and LOM mine scheduling.
- Integrate design criteria for the LOM; calculate COG and develop mine operating expense (opex) calculations.
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures in engineering.
What you need to succeed
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering with eligibility for P.Eng registration with the PEO.
- Minimum 10 years’ senior technical and operational experience in an open pit mining environment.
- Experience in a range of mine planning horizons including long-term mine planning, production support, mine operations and design in large and diversified mine sites; preference for experience in conventional hard rock gold operations.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge in phase and pit designs.
- Experience with resource/reserves estimation.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to influence and a high level of cultural awareness and sensitivity.
- Experience in strategic mine scheduling, life of mine planning, 5-year mine schedules and transition to tactical mine scheduling.
- Knowledge of equipment selection, reserve estimation and economic evaluations.
- Proficiency with mine planning software and optimization techniques; strong experience with Vulcan, Minesight and Deswik.
- Knowledge of unit costing methods for resource and reserve analysis and of cash flow and financial analysis via project financial models; experience with Xeras cost estimating tool is a plus.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
OUR WORK SCHEDULE: 4/3 schedule (Monday to Thursday) at Detour Lake Mine; combination of tele-working with presence at offices in Timmins, ON, Sudbury, ON or Toronto, ON and on-site at the Detour Lake Mine.
