Reporting to the Manager, Financial Operations, the Senior Financial Analyst is a business partner responsible for monitoring the financial and non-financial performance of the Regina Exhibition Association Limited. This role provides reliable and timely information and analysis to business leaders to support decision-making, supports budgeting, forecasting and variance reporting, and identifies risks and opportunities throughout the organization.
Responsibilities
- Financial Analysis & Reporting: Lead the preparation, review, and presentation of journal entries, financial statements, reconciliations, and variance analyses with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and strategic insight.
- Establish and refine financial benchmarks, standards, and best practices to strengthen organizational performance.
- Prepare and present executive-level financial reports and dashboards, analyzing revenue, expenses, and profitability to drive decision-making.
- Oversee reporting and settlements with business partners, customers, tenants, vendors, and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance and transparency.
- Monitor capital and operating project costs, providing progress reports and recommendations to optimize investment decisions.
- Lead the preparation and distribution of quarterly and annual financial statements for city, banking, and other external requirements.
- Develop and maintain performance dashboards, KPIs, and scorecards for senior leadership to communicate results and operational insights.
- Identify operational and financial trends, highlighting risks and opportunities, and advise leadership on strategies to improve performance and efficiency.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the development, coordination, and consolidation of annual budgets and multi-year financial plans, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy.
- Partner with business unit leaders to provide strategic financial guidance, monitor performance, and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
- Direct the forecasting process, incorporating economic trends, industry benchmarks, and scenario modeling.
- Present in-depth variance analysis and financial performance findings to executive leadership, enabling data-driven decisions.
- Oversee the development and refinement of complex financial models to support forecasting, budgeting, capital planning, and long-term growth initiatives.
- Data Management & Analysis: Oversee the design and implementation of advanced analytics tools, ensuring data accuracy, accessibility, and integrity across the organization.
- Deliver actionable insights by interpreting financial and operational data trends, supporting executive decision-making.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to enhance data collection, reporting methods, and predictive analytics capabilities.
- Champion the adoption of business intelligence tools and automated reporting solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy of financial analysis.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure adherence to internal controls, compliance standards, and financial policies, proactively identifying risks and recommending corrective measures.
- Review and approve monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with a focus on accuracy, transparency, and compliance.
- Drive cost optimization initiatives by continuously evaluating expenses and resource allocations.
- Lead preparation, planning, and coordination of internal and external audits, ensuring readiness and compliance.
- Assess financial systems, processes, and controls, implementing improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and risk management.
- Develop, implement, and monitor financial policies, procedures, and governance frameworks to align with organizational best practices.
- Leadership & Strategic Support: Act as a key advisor to senior leadership on financial performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Mentor, train, and provide guidance to the junior analyst, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Collaborate with executives and business unit leaders to evaluate strategic initiatives, investments, and partnerships.
- Represent the finance function in cross-departmental committees and strategic projects.
Performs other duties defined and assigned by the Manager, Financial Operations as required.
Position Details
Permanent Full Time position.
Weekly Schedule: Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Wage Range: $80,000 - $110,000

What It Takes
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance.
- A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or working towards an accounting designation is an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Experience (1-2 years) in full cycle accounting and/or related financial management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of GAAP and Public Sector Non-Profit Accounting standards.
- Knowledge of municipal accounting, budgeting and reporting is an asset.
- Ability to create and present reports to senior management.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Knowledge of trends and developments in events, entertainment, hospitality and sport and recreational business, finance, and economic theories is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel (VBA macro, SQL queries, Power Query experience is an asset).
- Strong interpersonal skills with client management and customer relations experience.
- Good organizational, planning, and multi-tasking skills.
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills for budget development with strong financial acumen.
- Excellent attention to detail and high standards in quality and accurate reporting.
- Effective and concise written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in managing multiple, complex priorities within demanding timeframes.

- Out-of-Scope role; hours may vary and overtime may be required with manager authorization.
