Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Services - Reporting, the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for coordinating a full range of financial services, including variance analysis and reporting, budgeting, and contributing to other specialized reports. The incumbent establishes and maintains cooperative and effective professional relationships with management and staff.

The incumbent assists with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and with the development and preparation of forecasts. It ensures that accounting procedures are followed and that transactions are recorded properly, prepares financial reports and examines and adjusts accounting records accordingly. This position acts as a liaison between the Financial Services Division and other departments within the organization and assists with reconciling the various subsystems to the financial software. The incumbent will mentor the financial analysts in the team, provide guidance and training as required, and ensure that timelines related to various assignments are met by the Financial Reporting team. The Senior Financial Analyst is also required to ensure that the team proactively researches and identifies funding opportunities for City initiatives; coordinates the development and submission of funding proposals and applications; and prepares and submits reports relevant to funding received by the City.

Qualifications

An undergraduate degree in accounting or a related field is required, along with a minimum of 6 years of experience in an accounting or related field. The incumbent must be a CPA PEP level candidate.

In addition, the following is required:

  • advanced skills for application of MS Office Suite;
  • advanced knowledge of methods of system analysis and the principles, design, and procedural methods used in big data analysis;
  • ability to conduct work independently, using sound judgment;
  • ability to collaborate with others to focus on objectives and providing guidance or mentorship to less experienced colleagues; and
  • the ability to clearly convey messages both verbally and in writing.
Salary

The City of Yellowknife offers a starting salary of $106,547.26 per annum, as well as a comprehensive benefits package including monthly housing and vacation travel allowances totaling $450 per month, and a defined benefit pension plan.
