Job Description

Insight Global is seeking an Analytics Engineer – Supply & Trading to join a major power generation company in Calgary, Alberta, on a 12 month contract, 3-5 days a week on site. This highly embedded role supports the Supply & Trading (S&T) organization by expanding, defining, and delivering analytics that enable effective contractual and trading decision‑making.

This role serves as a critical bridge between business-facing analytics and core data engineering, transforming complex, high‑volume transactional trading data into governed, scalable data models and analytical products that align with Capital Power’s Enterprise Oversight Framework (EOF) — the company’s foundational enterprise reporting platform. The successful candidate will work closely with trading and commercial stakeholders, ensuring analytical solutions are accurate, traceable, and optimized for decision support.

Skills and Requirements
  • 8+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data analytics, data engineering, or a senior hybrid technical/analytics role.
  • Strong SQL and data modeling expertise, particularly with high‑volume, financially transactional datasets such as trading, payments, exchange activity, credit, ecommerce (e.g., Shopify), or other highly governed, compliance-heavy environments.
  • Hands‑on experience working with trading, commercial, or market‑based datasets (energy, commodities, financial markets, etc.).
  • Proven capability to operate in a bridge role, collaborating deeply with business stakeholders while delivering technically robust, production‑ready solutions.
  • Experience working within modern data platforms and cloud environments, such as:
  • Snowflake
  • Databricks
  • Azure
  • SQL‑based cloud services
  • Demonstrated comfort with structured delivery models, including DevOps‑aligned development and release practices.
  • Experience in one or more adjacent data domains is considered an asset.
  • Experience with ETRM platforms; Allegro familiarity is an asset.
