Senior Actuary - Life & Annuities Experience Studies

We’re actively seeking a talented Senior Actuary to join our Life & Annuities Experience Studies team in Toronto, Canada. This role would be hybrid, eventually requiring 4 days per week in office.

How you will make an impact
  • Lead the preparation of experience studies for assumption setting and present findings to working groups and senior management committees.

  • Bring new emerging tools and analysis techniques such as predictive analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning into the development of experience studies.

  • Provides technical expertise while considering modeling capabilities and potential downstream impacts. Strives for a harmonious balance between addressing business complexities and simplifying the implementation process.

  • Provide expertise and insights into the Product Strategy, particularly as the company explores innovative new product types and new market opportunities. Recognize the sensitivity of assumptions and potential impact on financial statements.

  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure assumption approval and successful implementation.

  • Create experience monitoring dashboards at the right granularity to report key insights and emerging trends to senior management. Implements process improvements, automation, and efficiencies where applicable.

  • Work with external consultants to gather external industry data in order to validate assumptions and benchmark against competitors.

  • Foster collaboration, manage expectations, and effectively communicate project updates, milestones, and risks.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and effective coaching to junior team members, if applicable.

The experience you will bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, other related fields.

  • Has an FCIA or FSA designation, or are nearing designation.

  • Working knowledge of life & annuity insurance products and experience studies.

  • Excellent written/verbal communication and leadership skills. Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner to various audiences, including senior management.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

What will make you stand out
  • Experience with statistical computing software (e.g. R, Python, SQL).

  • Experience working with large data sets (e.g., Alteryx, Snowflake) and data visualization software (e.g. Tableau).

  • Self-starter with ability to develop solutions by collaborating with multiple business partners.
