Job description

Bird Stairs is seeking a conscientious and motivated candidate to fill the role of Senior Accountant at our Fredericton, NB location. This is a permanent, full-time on-site role. The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to perform with minimal supervision.

Relocation support may be available for the right candidate.

WHEN YOU JOIN US, YOU WILL BE:

  • Supporting the month-end close process by completing journal entries, account analysis, and reporting tasks
  • Assisting in the preparation and consolidation of financial statements, as well as monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
  • Supporting the annual budgeting and forecasting process
  • Coordinating and supporting external year-end audits and working directly with auditors to ensure accurate and timely completion
  • Acting as the key point of contact for internal financial inquiries and issue resolution
  • Maintaining and overseeing the fixed asset schedule
  • Managing and administering the Concur expense reporting platform
  • Performing general ledger reviews and assisting with internal audit activities
  • Participating in payroll-related tasks and support
  • Occasional evening and weekend work as required
  • Capable of lifting up to 50-pound boxes as needed

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • CPA designation or near completion required, with 3–5 years of experience in finance or accounting
  • Proven experience with audits, either from a firm or coordinating internal business audits
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel); experience with ERP systems (Microsoft D365 or SYSPRO preferred)
  • Familiarity with ASPE standards is preferred
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Adaptable and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; professional and personable demeanor
  • Reliable, with a strong attendance record and valid driver’s license for occasional branch travel
  • Able to work effectively under pressure with frequent interruptions and minimal supervision
