Job Skills / Requirements

Are you looking to gain valuable and varied experience as a Security Guard across a range of dynamic sites throughout the Lower Mainland? Join our Special Coverage Team, where you'll be a key first responder for short-notice or short-term assignments at locations such as universities, malls, office towers, government buildings, industrial sites, events, and more.

We are seeking candidates for full-time work, with availability to work both afternoon (ex. 3pm-11pm) and overnight shifts (ex. 11pm-7am), all days of the week. This role is ideal for individuals looking to build a strong foundation in the security industry with the potential to move into permanent site placements after 6 months to 1 year. Many of our sites are transit accessible, but having access to a personal vehicle is considered an asset. Your pay rate will be $18.50 - $22/hour, depending on the site.

Responsibilities at each site will vary, but will generally include:

  • Controlling access to the facility
  • Regular foot patrols
  • Monitoring CCTV cameras
  • Providing first aid
  • Providing excellent customer service
  • Writing detailed incident reports
  • De-escalating potentially violent situations
  • Responding to alarms and emergency requests
  • Managing lost and found
  • Communicating with colleagues, clients, emergency responders, and the general public
  • Reporting unusual activity, property damage, security breaches, etc. to our Operations Centre and emergency services

You'll be a great fit if you have:

  • A valid BC Security Worker License
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A passion for being active, since your patrols may be indoors or outdoors, in all weather conditions, and can include stairwells, uneven surfaces, and parkades
  • Physical ability to stand and/or patrol for the majority of a shift (8-hours average)
  • Confidence interacting verbally with team members, client personnel, members of the public, and emergency services
  • Some experience in security would be an asset, but other experience in customer service or volunteering can still help you succeed
  • Confidence approaching and leading in emergency situations, including trauma, aggression, intoxication, bodily fluids, etc.
  • A keen eye for watching and reporting irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations
  • Basic skills in utilizing technology, including writing reports on a computer, tracking patrols in a smartphone, and communicating via two-way radio
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada
