Overview

The County of Grande Prairie is currently seeking Seasonal Vegetation Control from May 4th until October 31st, 2026. Vegetation Control is responsible for spraying weeds and brush on County-owned property including on roadsides and in gravel pits. This position typically works Monday through Friday and during busy season with a 5:00 a.m. start time, with some weekends and evenings as required.

Responsibilities
  • Assessing and documenting areas to be sprayed and determining priorities and water location
  • Locating spray areas on map
  • Safely loading and filling water and chemical, and transporting to spray site
  • Determining and then double checking whether the area is a no-spray zone
  • Identifying target species and crops while on the move
  • Monitoring water/chemical use and distance covered, weather
  • Operating and maintaining equipment such as: spray truck, UTV, ATV, hand sprayers, and trimmers
  • Maintaining spraying records
  • Daily and monthly reporting
  • Chemical spill containment and clean-up
  • Take training required for the position (i.e. TDG, H2S, ATV/UTV, Defensive Driving)
Qualifications

  • Comfortable using computers, including MS Office software
  • Comfortable reading maps and accurately determining land locations
  • Physically fit
  • Comfortable dealing with the public and working alone for extended periods
  • May perform work in adverse weather conditions including heat, cold and inclement weather
  • Pesticide Authorized Assistant certificate
  • The successful applicants must have reliable transportation to and from work.
Additional Information
  • Term Length: May 4th to October 31st, 2026.
  • Work Schedule: This position works 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Weekends and Stat holidays off.
  • Hourly Pay: $29.36 to $34.43.
  • Closing Date: February 8th, 2026 11.59 pm.
