Overview

The School Bus Driver is responsible for transporting students to and from the ʔaq̓amnik̓ School, ensuring a safe environment for students at all times. This role includes proper maintenance of the school bus and taking actions to ensure it is in good working order.

Responsibilities
  • Operate school bus, transporting children to and from school and on field trips.
  • Perform basic mechanical inspections; determine required maintenance, and complete repairs or arrange for repairs with a mechanical facility.
  • Perform safety checks of the vehicle prior to each trip.
  • Complete required tasks to ensure safe and continuous bus operation, including cleaning interior and exterior and refueling.
  • Inform students of safety rules and supervise/enforce rules during trips.
Qualifications
  • Completion of specialized bus driver training.
  • Valid Class 2 driver’s licence with air brake endorsement and a clean driver's abstract.
  • Completion of, and possession of, a valid CPR and First Aid certificate.
  • Experience in the transportation industry is an asset.

Compensation and Schedule

Hourly wage starting at $25 per hour and will commensurate with experience and qualifications. Includes a favorable benefits package and pension plan. Shifts are typically 7:00 – 9:00 am and 2:30 – 4:30 pm on school days for an average of 4 hours per day / 20 hours per week. There is opportunity for additional hours for field trip coverage as well.
