REPORTS TO: Manager, Outpatient Mental Health

DATE REQUIRED: As soon as possible

SALARY: $39.07 to $56.00 per hour (ONA)

CUPE Service: $35.99 to $38.16 per hour

OPSEU: $39.16 to $50.77 per hour

Position Description

Working as a member of the Huron Perth Seniors Mental Health and Addictions Response team the Seniors Mental Health/BSO clinician will support the work of Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) in the communities of Huron and Perth. The Seniors Mental Health/BSO clinician will support older adults and their caregivers living with or at risk of responsive behaviours associated with complex and challenging mental health, addictions, dementia or other associated neurological conditions. The Seniors Mental Health/BSO clinician will provide direct, face-to-face supports to clients throughout Huron and Perth in hospital, long-term care and community settings. This role requires regular travel throughout Huron and Perth to support client care.

Qualifications

  • Current registered member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario or a current registered member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
  • A minimum of five years current progressive clinical mental health experience in a health care and community based setting is required along with a strong desire to work with the geriatric population.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in responding to mental health crisis situations with the elderly in the community and hospital setting.
  • Certification in Mental Health Nursing
  • Current BLS Certificate
  • Certification in PIECES, Gentle Persuasive Approach modality of care and Montessori Training
  • Certification in CBT for depression in Elderly or willing to obtain.
  • Completion of a crisis intervention certificate program or equivalent experience and education.

Abilities

  • Well-developed skills in assessment, service coordination, counselling, group facilitation, problem solving and public education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues faced by individuals in acute mental health distress and by individuals with severe mental illness.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competence in the application of treatment modalities to support individuals with serious mental illness.
  • Knowledge of mental health reform and values, principles of recovery, Mental Health Act, PHIPPA, Health Care Consent Act and Public Hospitals Act.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently conduct formal mental health assessment, crisis counselling and mental health therapies.
  • Personal transportation and hold a valid Ontario driver’s license and auto endorsement insurance.
