With this ambition, Veolia is integrating the City of Montreal's Waste Treatment Plan by taking over the operation, maintenance, and management of the new Montreal-East Biomethanization Centre (BEST). This centre will play a crucial role in converting 60,000 tonnes of organic waste per year into biomethane, by valorizing organic matter from Montreal residents.

In this context, Veolia is seeking a candidate for the position of Maintenance Manager, who will be responsible for the planning, allocation, coordination, and scheduling of corrective, preventive, and curative maintenance work. The manager will also be responsible for leading, motivating, and organizing the maintenance team to achieve set objectives and for managing the subcontractors necessary for the plant's activities.

Job Description
Main Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership in managing the prioritization of work tasks and coordinate daily maintenance operations;
  • Manage a work team responsible for mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control maintenance. Supervise general work such as architecture, exterior maintenance, snow removal, pest control services, fire safety, site security, maintenance of mobile equipment such as heavy machinery, etc.;
  • Participate in the writing of procedures, plans, and work instructions involving your department;
  • Define and implement the Preventive Maintenance Program and Plan;
  • Participate in the integration of the Preventive Maintenance Program and Plan into the Maximo CMMS;
  • Implement, monitor, update and maintain the preventive maintenance plan and maintenance objectives defined with the Plant Manager and the Production Manager;
  • Operate the plant in accordance with regulatory requirements, best practices, instructions, operating procedures and operating and maintenance manuals;
  • Define and plan maintenance taking into account biomethane production activities;
  • Ensure the monitoring, continuous operation and reliability of all plant equipment and installations, track and evaluate overall efficiency, as well as equipment performance;
  • Recommend improvements and/or resolve identified problems;
  • Analyze breakdowns, unforeseen events, variations, then propose solutions to the Plant Manager;
  • Ensure the availability and adequate supply management of equipment stocks, consumables and replacement parts to carry out corrective and preventive maintenance activities in a timely manner;
  • Plan, coordinate and monitor the interventions of subcontractors and external contractors;
  • Ensure the planning and management of the maintenance team's schedules under their responsibility;
  • Verify productivity and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs);
  • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports, as well as incident reports, according to internal needs and contractual requirements;
  • Supervise all corrective action requests (monitoring internal and external interventions, monitoring intervention reports, etc.);
  • Ensure that interventions are captured in work orders to ensure traceability and monitoring of all interventions;
  • Analyze and prioritize work orders with the objective of reducing the impact on production activities;
  • Record the interventions of subcontractors and external contractors in the Maximo CMMS;
  • Contribute to the implementation of solutions aimed at improving the performance and efficiency of the maintenance team's interventions, while reducing response and correction times;
  • Ensure coordination and participation in maintenance work planning meetings with the team;
  • Participate in the recruitment and hiring of maintenance resources;
  • Manage, coordinate and ensure the integration, training and development of employees under their responsibility;
  • Promote team involvement, participation and mobilization, and establish a positive work environment;
  • Control and manage the operating costs of maintenance activities under his/her responsibility in collaboration with the Plant Manager;
  • To actively participate in the quality, health and safety, and environmental approach, in factory audits, as well as in the promotion of related activities and controls;
  • Apply and ensure the application of site and corporate rules, instructions and procedures regarding quality, health and safety, and the environment;
  • Regularly check tasks related to staff safety at work;
  • To continuously inspect the quality of work performed by employees and external resources under his/her responsibility;
  • Participate in audits related to workplace safety, and in investigations into workplace accidents and near misses;
  • Perform all other related tasks connected with the job.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Building/electrical/mechanical/controls engineer or relevant experience of more than 5 years in a similar position;
  • Minimum of three (5) years of relevant experience in industrial plant maintenance, preferably in biomethanization, petrochemicals or water and/or wastewater treatment (an asset), or any other similar training or experience;
  • French and English (functional);
  • Holding the certificate (card) awarded by the Joint Association for Health and Safety at Work in the Construction Sector (ASP Construction) (an advantage);
  • Possess Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status, or a work permit issued by the competent federal authority to work in Quebec. (mandatory)
  • Demonstrates significant expertise in a field of building maintenance (Facility Management) or Real Estate Asset Management;
  • Demonstrates technical knowledge in the field of building: mechanics, ventilation, energy management, electricity, instrumentation and controls, carpentry, etc.;
  • Demonstrates skills in personnel management;
  • Capable of reading and interpreting technical and architectural plans;
  • Ability to analyze and utilize technical data;
  • Knowledge of the local regulatory context governing the building and its maintenance;
  • Good knowledge of computer tools (Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Aconex, Maximo) Managerial skills and significant experience as a team leader and supervisor;
  • Demonstrates an interest in teamwork and places great importance on respecting standards;
  • Demonstrate a willingness to collaborate and take responsibility;
  • Demonstrate a high level of proactivity;

  • Strong aptitude for analyzing the causes of technical problems and skill in finding solutions;
  • Leadership, communication, organization, rigor, availability, commitment, autonomy, and analytical thinking are necessary.
Work Environment:

Permanent, full-time position with a daytime work schedule of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The successful candidate must be flexible and available during periods of high production and be able to work under pressure occasionally.
