Research Scientist - Chemical Disinfection & Advanced Process Control (I/O)
Join Lambton College as a temporary full‑time support staff in the Research Centre for Wastewater Processing (RCWP). This position will begin as soon as possible and continue through 31 August 2026, working 35 hours per week at an hourly rate of $43.61.
About the Position
Reporting to the BPRC Manager and working closely with faculty, researchers, and industry partners, the incumbent will lead and coordinate research projects focused on chemical disinfection and advanced process control systems in wastewater technologies. Responsibilities include designing experiments, maintaining sophisticated research equipment, preparing proposal applications, and generating technical reports.
Technical Responsibilities
- Develop and lead research projects from proposal development through completion, focusing on chemical disinfection and advanced process control in wastewater.
- Design and optimise per‑ and performic‑acid systems for municipal and industrial wastewater.
- Operate pilot‑scale experiments and advanced process control systems for all unit operations.
- Mentor students on applied research activities and oversee their work.
- Conduct literature reviews, data analysis, and experiments in collaboration with researchers and industry partners.
- Lead laboratory analysis and design of experiments, including installation, calibration, and documentation.
- Provide consultancy to partners and industry representatives for new projects.
- Prepare technical reports, edit SOPs, and develop presentations for research partners.
- Coordinate project timelines and attend meetings with research teams and industry partners.
- Support the supervisor with the coordination of students and laboratory equipment.
- Maintain equipment, schedule routine maintenance, and keep usage logs.
- Order consumables and maintain safety compliance with WHMIS and college policies.
- Ensure hazardous material handling, disposal, and record keeping are compliant.
Administration Responsibilities
- Assist the research office in developing project proposals and funding applications.
- Prepare purchase orders and coordinate procurement with suppliers and contractors.
- Manage project budgets and ensure adherence to time and cost constraints.
- Develop task lists for research students and support recruitment of new students.
- Assist in creating promotional material for the research centre.
- Participate in tours for potential partners and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Minimum 4‑year degree in Wastewater Engineering or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in chemical disinfection processes (PAA, HOCl, PFA) and kinetic modelling.
- Experience with grant applications and proposal writing.
- Hands‑on pilot‑scale experiment execution and laboratory instrumentation.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and safety protocols.
- Proficient with laboratory procedures and Microsoft Office.
- Strong commitment to health and safety and analytical problem‑solving skills.
- Willingness to meet vaccination guidelines for safe wastewater handling.
