About the Role

Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Rehabilitation Assistant (RA) is responsible for carrying out elements of treatment programs under the direction / supervision of the Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist as directed by regulatory / professional practice standards and / or guidelines of the supervising health care professional.

Tasks are assigned based on consideration of the client providing consent for treatment by the RA (as supervised by the healthcare professional), the client’s status, related environmental factors, and the supervising health care professionals’ and RA’s level of competency (skills, knowledge, and abilities) to perform these tasks.

What You Bring

Education / Experience :

  • Diploma / degree from a recognized two-year Rehabilitation Assistant program or from an equivalent or similar program focusing on physical rehabilitation such as Physiotherapy / Occupational Therapy Assistant Kinesiology etc.
  • Previous experience working with clients in a health care facility with specific experience and training with relevant client population
  • Working knowledge and experience with theories and principles of guiding adult learning and client self-management approaches

Skills / Abilities :

  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to establish effective working relations with supervising therapists, coworkers, inter-professional team, and clients
  • Excellent time management, analytical / critical thinking, problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be at a basic skill level in word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Able to safely and effectively complete the physical responsibilities of the role
  • Demonstrated regular attendance at work

Assets :

  • The ability to converse in a second language would be an asset

Conditions of Employment :

  • This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
